checking my Norton 360 software updater and found six items that needed to be updated ticked all boxes to update but nothing happening,
You are better to go to the individual developer’s website to update your software. There are reports here of the information provided by the Software Updater being inaccurate.

If you are referring to Microsoft (C2R) programs like Word or Excel you should ignore those. As a matter of fact you should ignore all Microsoft programs in the Software Updater.
Also, as Petweb has mentioned above it might be best to use the Updater as a scanner only and update those programs found manually.

infelizmente essa ferramenta de atualização do Norton ela não e muito funcional, sempre tem problemas nunca aparece programas que está no seu computador para corrigir e quando aparece a pessoa tenta atualizar ele não vai.
