Norton 360, v. 22.5.2.15 incompatible with 8.1

This Norton 360 software (version 22.5.2.15) gets downloaded frequently since early April 2015 (Laptop's operating system is less than 5 months old). Follow up patches / updates installed quickly. Updates once, scans once, but when you get a red circle with white X a week later, then decide to click (or right click) on the icon, ....no response whatsoever. Get warning notices that Norton 360 is incompatible with Windows 8.1. Last install was when I received error codes 8504 and 04, which did not return this time. Used Norton Power Eraser as recommended in one fix, didn't help. No other malware / anti virus protection is running. In reading other solutions, yes I'm running 64 bit, yes, I turned off all enhanced protection mode settings. Yes, 2 Norton 360 (32 bit) processes & details are "running" with no activity on the computer. Norton 360 doesn't appear on the "Start Up" tab in "msconfig". All operating system updates have been done. All forum solutions have been failures. Somebody must have a fix for a 27 month old operating system that's pure garbage. Won't update to Windows 10, until Norton gets it act together on functionality.
