Does anyone know the steps involved in enabling port 3389 in Norton 360?
I can't remote to my desktop, nor can I ping it (both when not on the home network).
netstat shows 3389 open but something is stopping me from getting in.
Both my desktop and my netbook are running Norton 360 V 4.1.0.32.
Desktop's OS is Windows 7 Pro; the netbook's is Windows 7 Starter.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You can try creating a new firewall rule for opening communications via port 3389 to the remote computer:

Also, try to use remote desktop after disabling the Smart Firewall component from Norton 360. Let us know the results.

OK, thanks. I've just done that.
You have created the following rule for Internet communications:
Description: Port 3389
Action: Allow
Direction: Iniaut
Computer: Any
Communications: Specific
Protocol: TOP
Tracking: C

That sounds a bit risky: do you think it is, too?
In any event, I'm off to the library to get on a different network and try this out. Many thanks. I'll get back to you.
I forgot to mention that I have already tried disabling smart firewall; no change.
Go to Settings > My Network. Check the status of your desktop computer, and make sure that it is set to Full Trust. Then try to use the remote desktop. Also, make sure that you move the new rule which you have created to the top of the list.

It is at full trust.
I was thinking this morning about moving that rule to the top; I'll try that in a couple of days.
I will be out of town for a few days and need to be able to remote to my home computer, so I removed Norton an hour or so ago.
Thanks for your reply. I'll let you know what happened.

2010-05-13. Well, I've given up. I uninstalled Norton from both machines, took a week to get Windows working again, and now I can remote to my home desktop from my netbook. Tried it from McDonalds and it worked, so I guess it will work from anywhere.
$60 down the tubes.
Thanks for your help, though.
Contact Customer Support. I'm sure they can give you a refund. It can't hurt to ask. And it could save you $60.

I'll try that. I assumed that all sales were final. Thanks for the thought.
Well, that didn't work out, but I'm not surprised. I bought 360 from a third-party vendor on the www, so Symantec couldn't help. I don't really blame them.
I also 'chatted' with their support and they came into my machine. She was unable to grasp the situation.
What did happen, though, is that I thought about some of the earlier suggestions here and tried again to set up mstsc and port 3389 and VOILA! It worked! I can't figure out where I went wrong initially, but clearly I erred somewhere.
Thanks to all who contributed to this solution
Excellent! Congratulations. Sometimes it takes a village.
