I forgot to add that if I manually end the PaprPort.exe process before I attempt to shutdown, shutdown is successful!

As I'm re-reading my initial post I mentioned that Visioneer has version 11 available.  I just wanted to give some more information on that.  It's a free download for One Touch 4.0 users (which version 4 is what I have).  I downloaded it and tried to install and it fails right off the bat because it's expecting Windows Vista for the OS.  Apparently this free update is only intended for Vista users.

Visioneer is a closed-source project. You will need to contact their developers. By reverse-engineering Visioneer to understand the problem, Symantec faces many legal issues.

This sounds like the zombie app problem discussed elsewhere in this forum.  Check out "zombie" threads.  In my case, the zombie was and still is AOL: if I've used AOL then close the app, it often remains as a zombie,showing no CPU use in Task Manager but preventing me from starting another app or shutting down.  This is a N360 issue, not a Visioneer/ScanSoft issue, which I also use without a problem.  A work-around is what you are already doing: manually end the PaprPort.exe before shutting down.

Hope this helps :->

Hi stumped1

Which version of N360 are you running? Click 'Help and Support'>'About'.

Thanks

It’s version 2.4.0.4.

Hi stumpted1

Thanks for that. Can you try step 1 in the first post in this thread and let us know how you get on.

Thanks

so only do step 1 out of the 3 that are listed?

1. To make Windows automatically end hung processes, launch the Registry Editor and navigate to and select HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop. Double-click the AutoEndTasks icon in the right pane, change "Value data" to 1 and press <Enter>.

Thanks,

Hi stumped1

You can go ahead and apply all of those steps if you wish, although step 1 is directly related to auto ending tasks.

Thanks
