This was a new PC and N360 was installed right after the OS installation so I could not tell if Windows Update worked before, Anyway, I did what was suggested (remove then reinstall( and guess what, the problem seems to have gone away. But one thing I noticed once N360 was removed; the web access was noticeably faster. Now that N360 is back on, the web acess is noticeably slower. Is there some feature (e.g. phishing filter) or setting that is causing this? NetMaestro
Are you using Internet Explorer? If so, go to Tools>Options>Advanced>Security>Phishing Filter>Disable. See if this helps. Let us know.
Based on my monitoring of the system for the past 2 days, here is my conclusion:
- Re-installing N360 on my new PC Vista seems to have fixed the WIndows Update issue
- Disabling the phishing filter on IE7 seems to have corrected the performance issue
Thank you, John!
I just got a new PC with Vista Home Premium SP1 and installed N360 V2. I am having problems in getting the Windows Update to work; it just hangs there. The Windows Online Help also hangs similar so I suspect the problems may be linked. I came across a couple of similar issues on the web and mentioned firewall as the source of the problem. Given that this involves Windows Update, I am surprised that there arent that many articles; unless I am doing something wrong. Help is appreciated. NetMaestro
Good one NetMaestro, glad to help, and glad things are running smoothly again!
Did windows update work before you installed N360? Microsoft would probably advise you to uninstall N360 and see if it is causing the problem, so you may want to try that using the Norton removal Tool . Let us know.
