There is another thread that has been disscussing this since 2008. I’ve installed 360 Premier on a Vista SP1 Dell desktop and have the same problem. Is there a fix? I have reinstalled 360 three separate times using the Symantec removal tools and reinstalled but no help.
Hi lotis -
Could you tell me a bit more about the problem you are experiencing, or possibly link to the other thread you are talking about?
In addition Backup will not run and will report this message if you have the Norton Backup Drive open, or the Restore UI, or the Manage Backup UI. This is to prevent a restore from happening while files are being backed up for example.
Thanks.
John
John: The problem has been resolved. It was due to updating the Norton driver for the CD/DVD used for Norton backup. The driver: GearAspiWDM.sys interfered with the Microsoft Vista supplied driver. The result was a locked out drive that Norton Backup could not access. Technical guidance from Gear indicates that there is third party sofware that may interfere with use of this driver. A thorough check of my system indicates none of the listed suspects were installed. The solution was to manually remove the GearAspiWDM.sys driver and restore the Microsoft Vista supplied driver using a tool supplied by Microsoft: MicrosoftFixit50027.msi. I now have access to the drive, but can no longer use it for Norton 360 backup. Changing the Norton Backup to point to online Norton Backup Storage seems to work.
