Norton 360 v3 Backup / Additions & Exclusions?

I am confused by the additions and exclusions option in the 'What' tab of the Backup Settings page.  In other backup programs, I have seen the ability to specifically exclude particular files or paths.  In N360, it seems like this selection is to *only* remove paths/files that were added (e.g. included) via the 'Add a File' and 'Add a Folder' selection.

One other question, I use several 'uncommon' programs as part of my radio hobby.  They store their files in 'MyDocuments\My Scanner Stuff\...\.  If I include 'My Scanner Stuff' or even 'My Docuements', can I be sure that every file in that hierarchy wil be stored, even if it has an unrecognized extension?

You can easily Add/exclude a file or path by right-clicking that file on your harddrive, going to the Norton 360 context menu, and selecting Add to/Exclude from backup.  this will cause that file/path to appear in the Additions/Exclusions list.

The Backup ui also has Add File, and Add Folder buttons that will allow you to browse to the file folder on your system and add them as inclusions.  However, if the file types are not in a category, you will need to add them.  Do this by clicking the Advanced checkbox on the upper right side of the What page, then editing whichever category you would like to add the files to.

Thanks for the response, mdturner.  I went back and checked the backup log and there seems to be a discrepancy with what you have said.  When I added 'My ScannerStuff', it looks like 'uncommon' extensions were indeed backed up.

It appears as if specifying a path overrides the file extension selection.

Ah yes.  you are correct.  I’m glad you were able to back up your files successfully.

As you have just discovered there are a number of ways to achieve the same thing with 360.
