Norton 360 v3 incompatibility with Skype

I have uninstalled and then tried to reinstall. Keeps pointing me to the Skype folders on my C drive. Have selected “allow” for skype.exe on the Norton firewall settings but doesn’t help Any ideas??? Thanks

Hi claudiaceleste,

Norton's Firewall should not be interfering with Skype, especially if set to "allow."  I suspect something else is afoot.  Can you explain more fully what is happening?  I'm not sure what you mean by "Keeps pointing me to the Skype folders on my C drive."  What is doing this?  Are you getting error messages or connection failure messages?

Hi - For some reason yesterday I was unable to do the update to v5 (server issues maybe) but today I did so. Unfortunately no change to my ability to use skype. I have attached a screen shot to demonstrate what is happening. Essentially when i input my login credentials on skype and click "sign me in" it takes me to the skype folder on my C drive (Computer>Local Disk (C:)>ProgramData>Skype>Apps>login) instead of actually launching the app. No idea why this is happening or how I can remedy it. This only began when I installed Norton the other day. Incidentally, I am also suddenly unable to install Adobe Flash or use a lot of the javascript on IE9. Not sure if this is all related. Thoughts?

Hi claudiaceleste,

Checking the Skype website, this appears to be an issue that has to do with Internet Explorer 9 and running scripts (which agrees with your other issue).  Here is a rather lengthy thread on the Skype forum with some things you can try.  If you click "Go to solution" in the opening thread, it will take you to a post by TheUberOverlord which offers some good suggestions.  If these don't work, read on through the thread, as there are plenty of other things you can try, as well.

Thanks. Actually, I stumbled on the solution myself. When I uninstalled IE9 and reverted to IE8 all the issues went away. What is odd is that this incompatibility only came about when I loaded Norton 360. In any event it is solved. Thanks very much for the help. Claudia

Glad to hear you got it solved.  It definitely seems to be an IE 9 problem.  I'm not sure why it appeared when you installed Norton 360, but there have been similar issues in the past where the presence of software B will cause a defect in software A to become a problem - so software B gets blamed even though the fault is technically with the other application.  That's why some things seem impossible to solve sometimes.
