Hi guys,
After upgrading to N3620 V4, I noticed a wired problem when configuring backups. Whether I click "Manage Backup Sets" the entire window freezes and after a few seconds it pops up a dialog saying "Symantec Service Framework has encountered a problem and needs to close...", please check the image below for detailed error message :
Once I close that box, N360 stops running and couldn't even be started back, I need to reboot my PC to have it started again.
I've already tried the following solution TWICE but it didn't change anything :
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&selected_nav=partner&pvid=&docurl=20090330152350EN
After a few hours of testing I think its related to a network drive connected to this PC. If I disconnect that network drive, "Manage Backup Sets" doesn't crash anymore(I'm following the connecting / disconnecting produce mentioned here : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308582/en-us). But if I connect back the network drive, it crashes again. However I need to save the backups on that network drive, it was working totally fine before upgrading to V4, and currently due to this problem I could only save backups on a internal hard drive.
OS : Windows XP Professional XP3
N360 Version : 4.2.0.12
Has anyone ever encountered this kind of issue? I really have no idea what's going on. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Nobody knows why........?
Hello chiehkai
I'm taking a guess here. I believe that there are various different .dlls with that name that is showing in your screen shot. Perhaps there is a conflict between the .dlls or else you are missing the correct one.
Another possiblity is how did you install N360 version 4? Was it an over the top install? In that case perhaps you got a bad install of the program and it may have been too many over the top installs. Perhaps the use of the Norton Removal Tool 2 or 3 times with a reboot after each run of it will clear up the problem. But please be aware that using this tool will remove all Norton products. If you want to go this route, please let us know. Thanks.
Hi,
Thanks for helping. I think its only displaying one dll file in the screenshot - msvcr90.dll, not too sure about what you mean, sorry.
I uninstalled N360 V3 from Add/Remove Programs before installing V4. After realizing this issue I used the Norton Remover Tool twice before re-installing again, however that didn't fix the issue.
Probably its related to msvcr90.dll, since thats the only thing displaying in the error window. What is that really?
Hello chiehkai
I know there are different versions of that .dll and it has something to do with visual studio. My son fixed a problem I was having involving that .dll, but I don't know what he did to fix it. Sorry, I can't help any more than that. My problem didn't have to do with N360 either.
