Yesterday I installed Norton 360 v6 over Norton 360 v5 (I didn't uninstall 360 v5). After mannually checking for updates and rebooting my computer, my Norton is up to date and shows up in Firefox 13. However, I did not create a back up of existing logins in 360 v5. (I didn't know I should have!) When I go to "Settings > Edit Logins" it says I have no existing logins. How do I get my logins from Norton 360 v5 back?
I made a different password for 360 v6. Some users in previous threads said that if they used their old passwords their old logins showed up. I changed my password to my original password and my logins aren't still showing up. Should I uninstall 360 v6, and make a backup on 360 v5, then reinstall 360 v6?
From your browser, click on the Identity Safe link in your Norton Toolbar. If you are asked to log into your Identity safe, use the original password you had used for V5.See if that gets your old logins.
If you are already logged in to Identity Safe, then click on Options - Settings. Then click on Log out Now beside Log out of Identity Safe. Then click on Configure beside Log in to Identity Safe, then log in using the old V5 password and see if it works.
I just want to try other ways before I try uninstalling and reinstalling v6. But I hope I'm not already screwed and it's gone. Those are lots of passwords to remember/re-enter.
I called Norton 360 phone support - (BTW this forum is more helpful than the guy I talked to) - he said I needed to make a backup before I installed the newer version of Norton 360. And that my previous files were gone even if I unistalled v6, sorry about my luck, next time to make a backup before I upgrade. It doesn't say anywhere on the instruction card to do so, nor did the installing process prompt me to backup before upgrading. For common users like me I wish they would have made it more clear I needed to do that, since my logins from v4 switched to v5 fine :[
The installs of a newer version over an older one should not lose the data. Unfortunately things do happen and a backup is always prudent.
When you log into your Identity Safe vault, is it local or online. See image below. If you are logged into your Norton Account while logging in, that would be your new account. If you log out of the Norton Account, and then try to log in locally with the old password, it might work
I too believe there should be a warning to back up your Identity Safe data.
It says "Log In To Identity Safe (Local)" just like that photo.
I keep trying to put in the v5 password, but it won't work. I can log in with the new password (I even tried changing to match the v5 password) which lets me into Identity Safe but it still comes up with no previous logins.
You mentioned that you changed your passowrd - did N 360 ask if you wanted to change your password?
"The Identity Safe password can be reset through the Norton 2012 (N 360 V 6 is a 2012 product) user interface. If you type an incorrect Identity Safe password three times, then you are presented with an option to reset the password. If the
Identity Safe password is reset, all logon information that was saved is erased."
If this is the case, then sadly your ID Safe Data is erased.
Thank you Peterweb! You are a life and time saver.
By using Dinesh's instructions I was able to restore and make a backup of my old v5 logins.
I did have slight trouble being that my logins didn't show up when I put them in the folder in Safe Mode. However, I tried importing them in the Identity Safe "import" option from my v5 identity safe data .dat file that I had found in the hidden files, and my old logins were restored and work 100%!
I'm going to complain that Norton tech support guy lied to me when he said they were gone forever. That or he was just lazy. It wasn't gone forever, just hidden in my computer. Remembering all those logins was going to be a very long process that now I can forever avoid by making backups. I learned my lesson.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!!!
Just my 2 cents worth:
First of all distortion_X51, I am glad you got it sorted, but in reality I do not believe you actually accompished what was in Dinish's instructions or you misnamed the type of file you imported. .dat files are the type of files that ID Safe uses to back up in version 6. >npm files are the type that are used for ID Safe backup in version 5. I believe you actually didn't export (backup) anything from the instructions Dinish provided (" my logins didn't show up when I put them in the folder in Safe Mode").
It sounds like you opened N 360, selected Import form the settings and it actually imported the settings that were saved when you installed V 6 and were waiting to be Imported into your ID Safe account on V 6. Things should not work this way - the import from V 5 should be automatic.
It really doesn't matter at this point (as you are up and running), but may be something for everyone to keep an eye on in the future.
