I have a month old Lenovo Edge E520 with Win7 Professional 64 bit. It came with the trial version of Antivirus but I chose to install Norton 360 V6. It worked for some time but then the Norton gadget on the screen displayed "not connecting". When I tried to start the program got the message "Norton 360 has encountered an error. Error 8504,101". As advised further, I tried restarting, deinstalling with NRT, reinstalling (4 times) but the problem remains. There is no other antivirus tool installed.
Have tried everything that you recommend. Reinstalled from original DVD (6.0.0.145), ran LiveUpdates, rebooted... the same old "no connection" on the screen gadget appears, trying to start N360, after a minute of waiting or so, gives the error 8504, 101 msg. Same result from the downloaded version.
LiveUpdate downloads 53MBs and runs several updates, one of which must be bringing the software to the latest 6.2.0.9 which must kick-in after the reboot. Although I cannot run the program after that, the N360 icon properties show the program name that includes 6.2.0.9.
All my work is on the web. I don't dare use the computer unprotected. Help!

i have 2 winxp,sp3,ie8 machines. after upgrading from nis2011 to nis2012 in have gotten the error code 8504,104 four different times on one machine zero times on the other. luckily, turning off the machine for 5 minutes and then rebooting has taken care of it. i've been saying for the last month there seems to be a bug in 2012 that tiggers these error codes. there have been several threads in the nis/nav forums about this.
I followed the advice in another thread and removed RapidBoot from my programs. After the required reboot, Norton 360 is now working on my Lenovo ThinkPad E520. I hope Symantec looks at this problem and removes the incompatibility with RapidBoot.

To the best of my knowledge, Lenovo has lare4ady "fixed" the incompatability and there is a version 1.12 of Rapidboot that can be installed and works with Norton products. You can check the Lenovo forums for more info.
