I was using Norton 2006 OK until March this year until my 2 year subscription expired. I replaced it with Norton AntiVirus 2008 and then had frequent problems as Norton seemed to block IE7 and Outlook mail whenever it felt like it. Also, caused the internet connection to crash unpredictably. I've downloaded free trial of 360 and now I can't get on the intenet or emails at all. I'm using XP pro sp 2 if that is any help. Anyway, I went through all my device manager stuff in network connectors and found 3 items - one is running OK, the other 2 have yellow exclamation marks on them. The first one with the yellow mark has exactly the same name as the one above it, that is OK, except it says something like Symantic etc etc next to it. The other one with a yellow mark is a WAN something or other - again with the Symantic tag on it. I think these 2 yellow ones are causing the problem, so I tried to uninstall them ( which is what the help file suggested). But then I get a warning saying these are needed for boot up. So I daren't remove them. I am at my wits end trying to resolve this. I have restored my PC to an earlier date so I can connect here. I wondered whether or not to disable or uninstall these 2 yellow ones? Anyone got any ideas? I've spent hours trawling through help & support and forums here and elsewhere to no avail.
Thanks
Scott,
Many thanks for stopping by and your response: the only way I can get a screen shot of the devices is to restore my PC back to a more recent date with Norton in the environment and I am dubious about doing that as I am not sure what effect restoring my PC backwards and forwards to different dates has on my hard drive. I did take a note of one of them with a yellow mark, and it said:
"Intel (R) Pro / 100 VE Network Connection Symantec Network Security Manager." This was located immediately below the same device that didn't have a yellow mark.
And yes, when I am in that Norton 360 state I cannot access the internet or emails at all. I have done virus checks and apart from the usual tracking cookies, everything seems normal.
Thanks
Hi Jeannie,
I would first recommend contacting our Customer Support team through the product's Help & Support link. Or you can visit the below site to contact our free Customer Support:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/selectproduct_ts.jsp
If you have already done this and they could not resolve your issue, please let us know. If this is the case, please provide as many details as possible. Thanks!
Jeannie,
Would it be possible for you to post a screenshot of the device manager with the two devices showing warnings? Also, have you scaned your system for viruses recently? Are you able to access your email and browser occasionally or is it always blocked? The more information you are able to provide, the easier it will be for people on the forums to help you.
