Same with the spinning circle here on my desktop and also my wife’s laptop and had to use Task Manager to kill the process. We both are running Win10. What I did was uninstalled Norton then downloaded and reinstalled Norton 360 for my desktop then sent an “Install On Another Device” to my wife’s email on her laptop and installed that on hers. Everything seems to be working now for the time being but I had to reset up my settings but this problem needs to be fixed.
The white screen with the spinning circle is back in Norton. I tried waiting for a few minutes to see if it will come on but I found when I went to Task Manager to kill the process it would not let me end the task. Does anyone know what is going on as this is getting aggravating and are we being protected? Below is a pic of Norton process when trying to open it from my task manager if that will help anyone at Norton to get this fixed.
NOTE: Please be aware that this is also causing a problem with shutting down your computer as you may need to do a hard shutdown even after you kill the process in Task Manager.
Now mine’s stuck on “Check For Norton application updates” Processing……
I was kind of hoping it was hanging because they were rolling out a fix for the issue everyone here is posting about, but it’s been half an hour and it’s still stuck.
OK, got tired of waiting, closed the app, ran it again and it completed, but still no product update to resolve this “white screen” issue.
Update: I have found that using repair in Settings can fix the issue until something triggers the issue again although on one device the repair has worked so far.
Do we have any news from Norton if they are going to fix anytime soon their own errors? This all started after I did a live update and saw the anti-virus updating the app but not the anti-virus definitions.
It slows down restarts, it slows down also shutting down the system. I’m honestly not even sure if I’m still protected at all.
For the astronomical price we pay for their “protection” i think it shouldn’t have any issues such as this.
N360 all UIs ‘‘WHITE SCREEN OF DEATH, AGAIN”W1124H2.
Disconnect WiFi and having a punt around the ‘Task Manager’ & ‘Services’‘, stopping and restarting stuff; including at least 3x’RESTARTS’.
N 360 UIs are populating in the correct manner. WiFi restored. Back online.
It’s the amount of my valuable time I have to put into Norton, before I feel safe to go online. I’m now 2-hours behind with my day. I’ve missed my Sunday Service all due to Norton COME ON NORTON, GEN DIGITAL, GET YOUR GAME TOGETHER OR I’M OFF
I’ve been having the same problem for a while now. A white screen when I start Norton. This error occurred a few weeks ago, but it went away until today. Is this a server issue? My location: Germany, Windows 11 24H2
I still have this issue with white screen for the last 3 days, running the latest version of windows 10, its crazy that they havent came up with a solution, its almost like they dont care. Nobody knows anything?
it is a bug norton has a hotfix ready max 10days is there plan plus som other fix in that hotfix here is the list plus 25.10 also fix 3 extrem bugs when that is coming
Complete internet blocking , Stability and performance issues, Firewall and UI responsiveness problems
And what are we supposed to do in the meanwhile? Does the protection still work? Maybe not, it sucks cause Norton is a pretty expensive compared to other products, plus its always pushing you to buy extras, i got a 3 year license, but if by tomorrow its not fixed, ill just uninstall it and switch to a different products, non Gen Digital. Its a freacking disgrace at this point!
yes it does still work and if you do not like the buy extra just disable notification just remember to disable it Again when a new big ore major is coming ass it auto enable but remember it only work 80% ass it can miss a thing ore 2 just remember it work but you cant get in to see a thing only if you is lucky ass of now
Alright, lets hope by tomorrow morning it will be fixed, if not ill have to switch to a products that actually WORKS! Is gonna be monday and nobody will want to start work wondering if their protection works or not.
and the bug is not always only sometimes so why not wait i got it sometimes but ass i got it now it is only 50% and that is ok to mee ass i can use it ore just use a free tool temp but ass of now it is extreme stable so i will think it is down to 30% unstable ass it is now and pay to use a new tool when it is that stable is up to you but the fix is possible next Friday
I’m not really sure the protection is working perfectly. It’s working yes but for sure not totally well. I recently bought a game that released last Thursday, since the game is brand new and coming from a small studio, false positives can happen. I bought it in a official website of Japanese Origin and the studio has done countless games like such.
First launch of the game, everything is fine working like charms. Then the white screen happened on Norton, and my Norton suddenly started seeing the .exe file of the game as a IDP.Generic.
IDP standing for Identity protection, and Generic meaning it’s not sure at a 100% of what its… So it will act according to the behaviour of the file, Issue is, almost 80% of games with a interactive interface have a behaviour similar to viruses, not totally the same but similar.
File Insight already says “Thousands of users have used this file” and given it a “Good” trust level Not “trusted” i suppose because it’s from a small indie studio…
Still what i can see is, file insight reports it to be a good file but Norton itself seems to lose connection to the server a can’t reach a understanding between this new file of it being safe or not. so it decides to flag it a IDP.Generic simply because it doesn’t know what to do. Some of my older games (as old as 10 years and I haven’t played in a LOOOONG time) had the same issues either their .exe is flagged or some other piece of file. Honestly it’s very worrying we pay for safety and we get in return insecurity… and not a single word from the people a Gen to tell us what’s going on…
AH end funny fact, whenever my Norton manages to connect and the windows in not a white screen anymore and I run the game it doesn’t detect it anymore a dangerous. Am I really safe right now Norton?
