NORTON 360 will not recognize my external hard drive

Hi:

 

My norton 360 premier will not recognize my external hard drive, though my system does.  I have done a backup in the past, but am unable to do so at this time.  Please advise.

Just tried the following:

 

Plugged in all accessories and power supply to laptop prior to turning it on.

 

External HD still not recognized by Norton, though it IS recognized by the system.

That worked for a litle while, now it will not run again.  I have been on twice with Norton chat support.

 

The system recognizes my drive and I am able to access other files on the drive.

 

WTF???  HELP!
