Norton 360 won't run after upgrading to windows 8.1

I am running Norton 360 with windows 8.0.  When I bought computer, removed whatever security software was pre-loaded, and installed Norton.  Everything was fine, but for some reason I finally upgraded to Windows 8.1.  When I logged in after the upgrades loaded, I was met with this message from Norton:

"Your trial version has expired.  You need to activate it now".

I selected the yellow button entitled "Activate Now".   The following error occurs:

"Cannot connect to the Norton Server. An unexpected browser error has occurred".  I can then cancel or retry, both options a big fail.

My browser is Google Chrome, Version 44.0.2403.155 m.  

Anyone seen this special feature of Windows 8.1?
