I was recently presented with a Vista laptop that had been infected with Rogue:Win32/FakeRean. I used the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool with definitions from August 17, 2011 to boot and fully scan the laptop. Norton failed to even detect the virus. Malwarebytes' Anti-malware Free was able to detect and clean the virus. When I called Norton Support I was told that Norton Security Suite 5 was uesless against this virus. I would have to pay Norton Support $99.00 to have them walk me though the process of manually cleaning the infection. Malwarebytes resolved it quite smoothly though. Will a new definition file eventually address this virus? If not, is this virus, or a class of viruses, systematically beyond the capabilities of Norton Security Suite?
