Norton Anti-Theft not able to uninstall

Aloha to all.  I have read the threads relating to NAT which I believe to be my problem.  My husband purchased our computer which came with a 30 day subscription to the basic Norton product.  Not knowing anything, slightly more than my husband but still being the computer dummy, I clicked on the "Install NAT" thinking it was part of the package....we have since purchased Norton 360 but long story short, everytime we turn on the computer it freezes or goes into a sleep mode for 7 minutes before allowing us to enter the password.   After running scans, the only thing that stands out is the NAT program.  I have tried going to programs-uninstall but am unable to do it that way, or for that matter find the administrative angle as described in threads.  I do know the computer has had 14 critical events and they date back to the day I clicked on the NAT install.  I have also tried to go back and restore the computer to an earlier time to no avail, it did not erase the program.  Please help, mahalo.

Thanks for getting back to me.

First off, we bought the computer in September with a 30 day subscription to Norton, when I say "basic", I didn't recognize it as Norton 360 because I didn't see familiar characteristics.  This was during a hectic time as we were moving to Hawaii.  When I got on the computer (sept 21) I saw a screen prompting me to install NAT so I clicked the install button and the computer just kept thinking.  I was busy at the time and think I walked away to do something, not sure, do know NOW that we have never subscribed to NAT or used any features for that matter.  When I look at my Norton account it does not appear there as current or expired so I have no password.  Oddly, through some searching on my computer I found NAT to be "running".

It isn't that I can't find NAT via programs to uninstall, it is there, I click on it to highlight, then I click on uninstall and nothing happens.

As for what scans I have done, everything I can find on the computer and in Norton 360.  I will have to retrace my steps to know just how I got to the knowledge of a problem with NAT which is what I will do now, retrace some steps.

Hello again diane57.

I remain confused as to what the position is.  As far as I can see you have not stated any reason for me to think the the long delays on your computer are related to Norton AntiTheft though I am puzzled that you can see it in the programs uninstall area of the control panel but that does not seem to allow you to uninstall it.  Though I do wonder if this might be related to you resetting the restore point.

The reason I asked about other security software is that new computers often come with some "basic" security software, sometimes several, however if you do not fully remove it before installing any new security software there is lots of opportunity for the different programs to clash and cause long delays and unreliable results.  So I wondered if you had something else, like McAfee or any one of the many others, on the system.  Do you think this might be the case and if so what are/were they?

As you don't seem to actually know if you installed Norton AntiTheft or not, have you logged on to the Norton AntiTheft website (which I think you can get to from here) using your Norton Account details to see if there is anything showing there?

Good luck in your searches.

And hello yet again diane57.

I believe that Norton may have now got in touch with you directly.  So that should sort things out as quickly as possible.  However if you have not heard from them then do let us know.

All the best.

I hope to hear of a successful resolution before long.  ;-)

Hi Diane,

Please let me know if the steps given in the mail helped you fix the issue?
