Hello..

Will antibot still function if annual subscription is ceased?.I understand no more program updates would be available or support but would the program still work?

Mmm...the help file seems to indicate otherwise

I would like to know for defenite before purchasing. If it deactivates after the year thenthis software is no good to me.I dont really want to pay for yearly updates on something such as this unless i want new features, but i want the choice of continuing to use the current software that i might purchase.

This is quite normal

<< I dont really want to pay for yearly updates on something such as this unless i want new features, >>

You might be well advised to allow for bug-fixes and such-like .......

None of us like "subscription services" but that is the trend these days since the profit on a one-off sale of a product cannot pay for endless years of support and anyone who has spent much time in these Forums can see for themselves what good support of the product and the users is really like.

Thanks for the reply.I understand the need for subscription where an av is concerned and signatures are added each day,but based on the information i have ,im finding it very hard indeed to justify a subscription for this type of programe.Of course if i want the next version with more bells and whistles then i should pay for that. Can you clarify how many updates antibot has actually had since its licencing from sana?.Does it have daily or weekly updates?.Im finding it difficult to get information about what is actually updated as i was under the impression that it doesnt require updating at all other than bugfixes or new feature or program updates. If that is the case then again it seems rather harsh for antibot to cease working simply because i dont want to upgrade to the next version.I dont know of any other programe that does that ,other than avs that need to update sigs using a new engine.

thanks in advance

Norton AntiBot will no longer function with an expired subscription.  The real-time process scanning disables.  As long as your subscription is current, you are entitled to any and all updates of signatures, product builds, etc.

Thanks you for confirmation. Can you elaborate on what signature updates antibot uses and what frequency the signature updates are released?.I was under the impression that antibot used behaviorial heuristics ,and therefore did not use signatures.

thanks in advance

ellison

Norton Antibot uses a small # of signatures, mainly to provide more specific detection names. It also takes an occasional white list update for applications that look like they exhibit malware behaviors but are acceptable, legit applications. Update frequency really varies, but it is around monthly if not a big longer. It really does not require much in the way of updates. AntiBot does receive occasional engine tuning as well to hone the heuristics but this is even less frequent. Hope this helps,
