Norton AntiSpam folder took up residence in a pre-existing OE folder which I value

NIS2010 ver 17.5.0.127 on deskside windows PC (XP Pro w. SP3 and all updates) using OE6 ver 6.00.2900.5512:

Hello to the experts out there!  I recently removed NIS2009 with NRT several times and then proceeded to load NIS2010 and activated it with remaining days from my NIS2009 license.  Worked without issue.  Then, I proceeded to customize NIS2010 and enabled the AntiSpam feature for use with Outlook Express.

We have 6 different e-mail accounts with our ISP and use OE to access them all.  The AntiSpam folder appears to have set up properly on most of the accounts, but the primary account I use has an issue.  I noticed no AntiSpam folder was present in that particular account.

I started exploring around in each of the pre-existing folders I'd established long ago for organizing my OE mail and have discovered that AntiSpam took up residence in one of MY folders that has valuable e-mail stored in it!  When I right click on that particular local OE mail folder, the rename and delete options are grayed out, and an " Empty 'Norton AntiSpam Folder' Folder" choice is present!  I've done experiments with incoming mail and Norton AntiSpam is definitely directing SPAM into this folder.

Temporarily, I've moved all my valued mail archive out of this overtaken folder and am stymied as how to proceed.  Since the delete option is grayed out for this folder, I have no way (that I know of) to delete folder and see if Norton AntiSpam will recreate it with proper folder name.

Seems like a serious flaw since I could have inadvertently deleted a large amount of valued e-mail by simply hitting the "Empty Spam Folder" from the Norton AntiSpam icon drop down menu!!!!

Grateful for any suggestions on how I might best proceed from here.  I am a satisfied NIS customer over the years, but this issue really seems troubling and has me questioning the robustness of the AnitSpam feature.  It seems very unacceptable that it could hijack an existing mail folder and who knows what else behind the scenes in my OE local file structure.

One update to the above...I re-opened OE later today and saw a screen indicating Norton SPAM needed to close OE and reopen it (improvements were listed as the reason).  I let it do this.  Upon inispection when OE re-opened, the previously "hijacked" OE local folder no longer appeared to have the RENAME or DELETE properties grayed out, AND it was no longer indicating any connection to NORTON SPAM folder.  Also, I see no evidence of ANY local folder as a SPAM folder now, so I don't know where Norton SPAM filter is sending my SPAM.

Any tho'ts on what might be at  play here?  And, short of removing and re-installing NIS2010, is there a way to "force" NIS2010 to generate the proper SPAM folder in my OE account that appears to have the issues mentioned?

Thank you in advance if you can supply any guidance.

Puzzled in Boise

Yet another update...

After more carefully scrutinizing each local folder's properties when I open an identity in OE, I've noticed that the NIS SPAM folder moves around to different personal local folders.  Example:  I open OE and then right click on a local folder I've previously created (call it personal folder name "A").  It shows grayed out for, among others, DELETE and RENAME, and shows itself to be the Norton AntiSpam Folder with the "Empty "Norton AntiSpam Folder" folder" option.  BTW, there is also NO "Norton AntiSpam Folder" in the local folders listing.  Next, I close down OE app.  Then, if I reopen it for the same identity, I'll sometimes get a pop-up from Norton (NIS2010 with enabled AntiSpam feature in my case) alerting me that to set up SPAM, it needs to shut OE down and re-open it.  I hit OK and OE does shut down and reopen.  At this point, the SPAM folder drifts to another of my previously created personal folders (call it folder name "B").  This scenario plays out somewhat unpredictably (sometime get the pop-up, sometimes not).  Each time  I do happen to get the Norton pop-up, OE does close and some form of re-configuring of Anti-Spam folder for that identity does occur.  Thus far, my other 4 identies behave as expected (a dedicated Norton AntiSpam folder is present and seems to work as advertised).  Its just the one (most frequently used) identity that has this unusual trait.  I have not tried any further NRT and NIS2010 re-install attempts whilst I await input from one of the many experts out there.

Grateful in advance for anyone's insight into what might be at play.

Still puzzled in Boise

That is an interesting problem. I know it's been awhile since you first posted, any new updates?

I know that sometimes when the AntiSpam folder is missing, you can get NIS to recreate it by unchecking Outlook Express as an integrated client, restarting the computer, and then re-enabling OE as an integrated client. This may help to reset whatever odd behavior is happening. If it doesn't, I would recommend disabling OE as an integrated client in the AntiSpam settings and reboot, manually creating the Norton AntiSpam folder, and then re-enabling OE. See if that helps fix the situation. As a final step, I would recommend an uninstall, creating the folder manually, and reinstall and see what happens.

I thought I read somewhere once that the AntiSpam folder is only created if there is no "Junk" or "Spam" folder already set up on the email account, but unfortunately I'm not able to find where I read this, so I could be mistaken. I'm curious to know, what was the name of the folder that AntiSpam took over initially?
