I just want to follow-up on my earlier suggestion that when Norton AntiVirus 11.1.2 for Macintosh cleans a virus, the log (View Recent Activities > Activity Log), and/or the dialog box that announces that the virus was cleaned, should display the name of the virus (not just the name of the file from which the virus was removed). Although the activity log displays the type of item detected if the detection occurs during a manual scan, it does not display the virus name if it is removed by AutoProtect.
Anyway, since I made that comment I reinitialized the hard disk and reinstalled my operating system. I turned off Automatic Repair so that I will be notified immediately if anything is detected, and be given the opportunity to decide what to do. After a few days, Norton popped up an alert stating that there was a virus in my IMAP sent-items folder. I clicked "attempt repair" but, after I opened the Norton AntiVirus application, the log did not mention that anything was detected at all! I then did a manual scan of the IMAP sent-items folder and it found nothing.
About a day later I ran LiveUpdate and then re-scanned the IMAP sent-items file manually, and voila! I found 4 Windows Trojans. I clicked on "delete" and this removed my local copy of my IMAP sent-items file, but at that point, Norton AntiVirus failed to quit. Anyway, the next time I loaded my e-mail client I removed 1 or 2 spam complaints from my sent-items and then "compacted" my folders; that seemed to do the trick.
In summary, the log should mention all detections and their outcomes, and in addition to saying where the virus was detected (which it normally does), I recommend it also indicate which virus was detected – at the very least, it should say whether Norton removed a Windows virus or a Mac virus.
