I am getting really sick of this. Sorry, uninstall the product and hope it reinstalls, run a aggressive virus scan (with no documentation about what it could remove, and will I be able to control what it does) sounds like a bunch of developers without a clue. Oddly, I have only seen this error in a spot where I have low connectivity to my router, I just close out box, and norton icon retains it's green check mark.
I have not whined about this for a while. Are there any real solutions or just the continuing nonsense outlined above. I have used Nortons for many years, but a product that reports phantom errors is not encouraging. If nothing new, thinking of switching products and watch the reports of this error grow from a safe haven. This all started after I was prompted to update my previous version to your latest and most studly product.
Lastly, a question I continue to ask, and never get a reply, what does this error code mean? I am a programmer, what code events trigger this message? I want to know what this is reporting, not just solutions that may or may not work.
I guess your question fell thru the proverbial crack - which is always possible on a forum - but no excuses - I'll give you what I know about Error 3048,3 and if the nformation is not enough for you - I'm sorry - it is the best I can do as a volunteer.
Basically this error means the program is "unable to install Update". The hard [part is trying to figure out why it is notable to install the update and if you read on - you hopefully will see what all could trigger this error. Bear in mind I am not a programmer, engineer or even formally educated in computers - so I am far from an authority in any of this.
Here is the offical fix documentation on the 3048,3 Error
As close as I can tell the logic is that running the Intelligent Updater, will get your virus definitions up to date - to ensure your protection is up to date.
Running the NPE would ascertain if in fact a virus/malware is blocking the update function.
Later it refers you to run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool - this is an effort to make sure you have a working install of Norton.
At the very end of the NRnRT instructions is an option to uninstall your Norton Product, run the Norton Removal Tool and then reinstall Norton (bascially a clean install) in order to try to get the update to function.
While all this is logical and makes sense, it certainly may not be adequate in all situations. Other things I have seen tried in the past, but none that I can say will work each and every time.
Clear the temp files--> clear prefetch-->Set Boot Time Protection to Normal .--> Run LU-->Restart.
This error can happen due to Remnants of another AV in which case the Previous AV Removal Tool might be required.
Live Update files Corruption can also cause this error: Turn OFF Tamper Protection. Remove the Contents of C:\ProgramData\ Norton\[ID of the point product (eg : folder starting with {0C55C096}0] \Norton product_version\Lue\Downloads. Reset Registry Permissions -->Run LU. Turn ON Tamper protection.
It appears there is a problem with the last link to reset registry permissions and I can not seem to locate and alternate source at the moment. Sorry. Can anyone help?

Thank you! This is the first post I have seen that admits that a live update failure triggers this error. I have earlier noted this occurs only in a spot in my home where wireless access is weak. So a wireless drop could trigger this.
If any official norton Gods read this, why not just report live update failure? An undocumented 3048,3 error, with instructions to spend hours downloading all sorts of software, then reinstall your product is beyond silly. I just run live update by hand and all is well. Or, perhaps try three times, then report an error. Reporting this cryptic error just because the Internet connection drops, is rather ridiculous.
I do qa and need work. Sounds like norton could use me. Anyway thanks much for your reply.
