I installed Norton Antivirus 2009 (my employer has a site-wide license which allows employees to download and install it on their machines) on my Vista Home machine. After that I could not get an IP address from my modem, and consequently could not connect to the internet. I tried *EVERYTHING* but Vista kept picking up the 169.x.x.x address (which perhaps is stored on the machine). After a while I decided that it had something to do with Norton Antivirus I had installed and I un-installed it. Still the same issue, I could not connect to the internet. I finally came across the posting at http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=8350 that suggested the Norton Removal Tool. That finally worked. So un-install of Norton Antivirus did not solve the problem, but running of the Norton Removal finally did.
- What is the blocking that Norton Antivirus causes? That is, what is the reason behind it?
- I find it quite ridiculous Norton Antivirus and Vista do not seem to work well together. In addition it is particularly ridiculous that un-install was not enough but that the Norton Removal Tool was required.
- What should I do so that Norton Antivirus and my Vista Home machine work well together? I do not want install Norton Antivirus again without understanding this. Should I be trying othe Antivirus programs?
