norton antivirus 2011 ccvchst.exe graps 100 percent of cpu

When running an application,  a while after Norton antivirus 2011 has run its normal update,  my computer will suddenly lockup.  When I check taskmanager I find that ccvchst.exe is running, it has grabbed 100 percent of the cpu's time and nothing else can run.  After waiting ten minutes, ccvchst.exe is still grabing 100 percent of the cpu time.  I am forced to kill the power to shut it down and restart my computer.  Trying to kill it using taskmanager won't work, it refuses to end the task.  When I look at non Norton forums, I find that many, many norton users have this problem.  But, help, or technical support at norton don't recognize the ccvchst.exe loop at all.  Seaching this forum under ccvchst.exe fails to bring up anything.
