i had it running on xp verson for a while, and upgraded to win7.
At first is went fine but once i turned it into gamer mode it turned off the live updates, when i tried to updated them it would get past checking for updates.
so trying that for a while i gave up and stated to reinstall, with the cd and with the downloaded setup both wont stop initializing.
I am afraid that the latest current version of NAV 2009 Gaming Edition which is available on the Symantec server is not compatible with Windows 7 - and neither is your disc version; I downloaded NAV 2009 Gaming Edition from over here (link courtesy of Yogesh Mohan), and to judge from the build number (when right-clicking on the file and checking under "Properties"), it does not contain the necessary Windows 7 patch.
This is definitely a quandary - because that patch is only available via LiveUpdate. You would have needed to run LiveUpdate and obtain the latest patch before upgrading to Windows 7.
However, it is best if you obtain verification and further help from Symantec Customer Support at the link below - you can chat with them for free:
That is the problem with any one who gets a new computer and wants to stay with any of the Norton products even though the latest version of the 2009 product is compatible with Win 7. There are plenty of people out there that don't want to update to 2010 products for various reasons, but we can't get the latest version of NAV/NIS 2009 because you can only get it by live update. The patch is available and it works with win 7 and was created for that reason, but it makes no sense now to be olnly able to get it thru live update when you can't use live update with 2009 product since you can't install it directly with the updater to patch 16.7.2.11.
And in the case of NAV Gaming Edition: there is no NAV Gaming Edition 2010 as yet - only NAV 2009 right now :-/ So there is no workaround in this case by upgrading to/installing the latest product because there is currently none available for this particular product category.
