Seems that my Antivirus is executing a complete scan on my entire machine a few times a month.  How can this be stopped.  In the configuration I have the box unchecked that says… “Run Quick Scan whenever protection updates have been received”.

netmation,

Phil is correct. However to expand upon his post, there are two different types of scans.

Quick Scan runs whenever protection updates have been received to check only the most commonly vulnerable areas for newly detected risks. It does not scan the entire system, only a limited numbers of files and should only take a few minutes. I would recommend checking this box to let it run.

The Complete Scan: When installed, Norton by default sets a schedule to scan your entire computer for viruses and risks. This scan has nothing to do with the Quick Scan. Most folks change the schedule of this scan to run at a time when they know their computer will be on, but they will not be active on it. I believe the minimum recommended interval is to run once every week to ensure system protection. Of course, some folks run the scan more often - it is user adjustable.

Again, as Phil mentioned, I would recommend some type of regularly scheduled scan as opposed to turning it off.

Is it correct the only place to change this is in the Control Panel / Scheduled Tasks.  There is no place within the Norton Antivirus 2008?  Thanks for the assistance.

Norton AntiVirus matters are dealt with in Other Norton Products so don’t be surprised if you find this thread moved there. The system will leave a marker message here with a link to the new location.

Open Norton AntiVirus (N.AV) > N.AV tab > Tasks & Scans > Schedule a Scan.

I would also recommend that you do a Full System Scan at least twice-a-week.

It sounds like it is running a full scan every 14 days or so.  This is also an option that can be turned off (schedule a scan I think).  Simply don't have one scheduled, Although I don't recommend it.
