This happened over the last couple of days. When I opened a new Internet Explorer 8 browser, it would open (took a long time) and a small window popped up with error message saying, "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close...". If I moved this winoow off to the side, the IE8 browser still worked fine. (Took me a whole day to narrow this problem down to Norton Antivirus updates interferes with IE8.) Here is what I did:
I completely uninstalled the Norton Antivirus program using the removal tool provided by Norton. I reset my IE8 browser. Everything worked fine after that without the error window. Then, I restalled Norton Antivirus again. Everything worked fine for most of the day. Then the same problem occurred again a few hours ago. At this point, I am pretty sure if was not interference from my other programs or I got viruses. I only use my browser to go to MSN, Yahoo sites, etc and check my emails. Also this exact same problem just occurred on my laptop with the same set up. This problem has to be caused by Norton Antivirus automatic updates. (Up until now, everything has been fine for years for my computers since I always use the proper virus/utilities protections and do routine scanning all the time.)
As I typed this message from a newer computer using IE10, I removed the Norton Antivirus once again from the older computer that is using IE8 on a Window XP, everything seemed to run fine again as it did the first time. I have not reinstall the Norton Antivirus yet!
Please help! Thanks!
