When I run "get support," Norton autofix is "repairing" something everytime I reboot the PC. The support says "no problem" for the duration of the session but rebooting it forces it to "repair" something if I run "get support." It says "installation repair."
Salut hocine,
Salut chefo,
Merci pour la solution !
Me voilà rassuré
Bonjour,
The problem is you have had two unusual screens both which you desribe as looking like the real thing. The question is are they the real thing. Can you explain why you do not feel that the windows blue screen is a windows ble screen. What is the message on the blue screen. We need the code just after half way down to the end of the page.
Have you tried "safe mode"?
The screen is blue and looks like a windows background. there are no icons on the screen and no error messages
The laptop does not react to any key command, I have tried, ctrl, alt, del - nothing.
The only thing is a forced turnoff.
On restarting the computer it gives the option of a windows check (preferred) or a normal start. Which ever option is chosen it ends up with the 'blue' screen.
A windows background can look like anything, but if it is just blue with no writing on it, it is not imho a "blue screen of death"
I guess you are not familiar with safe mode. When you restart or turn on your computer, hit the F8 key repeatedly until a menu appears.
If you have no luck with this, then post back here with the laptop make and model and advise . Make sure there are no dvd's in the drive.
Thanks for your interest.
A friend who has a little more knowledge of these things than I do looked into this and he has found a hard drive problem.
He suggests that I 'jumped' to conclusions before going thro with simple checks.
He thinks It has nothing to do with Norton autofix as such, it was just a coincidence that that was going on when the hard drive played up.
At least I recently backed up and the laptop is now at a local reputable repairers.
Many Thanks

Sorry to hear your hard drive is acting up.
That could explain why you got the Autofix notification in the first place. Norton may have been looking for a file and because of the hard drive failing was unable to find it. That would initiate the Autofix.
LondonJenn wrote:Hi all,
I've been a loyal customer of Norton IS products since I purchased my first PC in 2000. I am currently suscribed to NIS and for about the last 2 months Norton Autofix constantly pops up to 'diagnose and fix an error' it has detected.
After running for a few minutes it claims that it is unable to fix the error. It then leads me to the Norton website and wants me to download and install software. Today's error is 'Error 3048, 3'
This has never happened before in the 12 years I've been a NIS customer and, TBH I am getting sick and tired of it - when i purchase an IS product (as opposed to downloading free IS software) I expect it to do the job without asking me to download software once a week.
I went along with the instructions the first time when i was asked to uninstall and re-install NIS, which took ages and cost me money because I use a dongle for my internet connection.
Why is this happening and how can I make it stop - these constant errors that Norton detects but is unable to fix is making me lose faith in a product that I really, really believed in. At this point I am ready to change IS providers; I do not see why I should pay for a product that does not seem to be doing the job the way it should.
Rant over; I'd appreciate any advice on what is wrong with the current version of NIS.
Thanks
Jenn
Welcome Jenn,
Sorry about the problem. The problem appears to be corruption in a portion of the program. This is the knowledge base article on that error number
Keep us posted
edit: there is another thread where the same problem is mentioned
http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/Error-3048-3/m-p/888648#U888648
may be of some additional help
got same message today - my feeling is that it's spam or more likely a phishing situation - I closed it out , i.e. ignored it - don't think it's legit .
Is it serious, then? What can I do?
Is it serious, then? Is there anything I can do?
Hi All,
Are either or both of you in fact using Comcast Norton Security Suite?
Please come back with your operating system and name/versin of your Norton product (Support > About).
Are either or both of you in fact using Comcast Norton Security Suite?
I don't think so.
Our OS is Windows 7 and our norton version is v20. The most recent version.
Hello,
As I mentionned in your other thread, if there are some missing or corrupted Windows files, then NIS cannot run properly sometimes, that's probably the reason of Norton Autofix being activated by itself in order to try to fix the problem, which probably couldn't be corrected.
Regards,
What about the message ubermax and I encountered? How serious is that?
Can anyone help, please?
As long as there is a green checkmark on the Norton icon in your system tray indicating that Norton is healthy, there is nothing to be concerned about. If you want to run Autofix manually to reassure yourself that all is well, you can do so by clicking Support > Get Support. Norton History logs show past events - if Norton is not alerting to any problems currently, the log entries simply indicate things that Norton has already taken care of, and which require no further action.
