I have several items, but don' have the details in front of me (i'm at work)

So if there is something of major importance, such as a firewall breech, how would I be notified? Would a window pop up?

I know if I have a virus, spyware, etc than it will show in my scan summary

You have NAV installed? Than Norton won't have firewall pop ups.

If you have any spyware or malware Norton most definatley will pop up and warn you

Tony- You asked what things pop up on my activity and connection logs that disturb me

Here are some items

sometimes when I open up my browser to surf the net, i'll get like 3 or 4 readings of

c:windows\system32\rundll32.exe

But I'll get like 4 of them consecutive on my activity log

I also seem to get this type of notification in the activity log like evry 3-4 minutes

port blocking allowed 192.xxx.x.x (8)  I left out numbers where the "x" is to maintain my security.

I have DSL so my comp is on 24/7. So these may not be anything, but its the type of thing that confuses me

also I notice something  marked as suspicious activity. For example,

au_.exe  in a temp file

when I google that, it shows really bad stuff. But I notice that this happens when something is removed like a game program or adobe flash player

Please download superantispyware and run a full scan and see what happens

www.superantispyware.com

I have Spybot and taht has run clean as well as Windows Defender

On the au_.exe issue, I know its not anything bad in and of itself. On another computer taht is not at my home, I removed the ADOBE flash player and this same file appeared in the temp files. I think it is a temp file that is used when you uninstall something

No on the other issue regarding notification of a bad issue (Malware, virus, etc) Am I understanding taht there is no need to check the log or history for these, that if there is such a case my norton will give me a pop up indicating there is a problem?

Hi all. Let me start by saying that I know littel about computers, but just enough to misunderstand things and have that misunderstanding lead to excessive worry. My friends and family that use Norton say that i shoudl set it up, make sure all my defs are up to date and then leave my worries behind.

I have NAV2008 on a HP home desktop using the Windows Vista Hoem Premium OS and go on line as a user account rrather than admin account. I have my defs set up to check every 4 hours and run a quick scan if the appropriate defs are down loaded. I also run a NIGHTLY full system scan. So I am a little on the overkill as far as coverage. (Back in the day I would run a scan weekly)

Now the one problem I have is that I check the NAV2008 logs and history way too many times. As a non-computer savy dude, theer is a lot of info that I don't undertand, much of which sacres me. Friends and family say that because it trips me up, I really need not look at the logs.

My question: If there were problems, how would I know if I don't look at the logs?

Please try SuperAntispyware as suggested

That’s probably true, although a few people complain that Norton AntiVirus provides TOO MUCH messaging of what items are blocked or found, and these alerts appear on top of other windows. Is there anything alarming that you find in the logs?
