Be aware. Just confirmed my observation and suspicion after talking to Norton rep.
The backup process doesn't recognize files that were previously backed up and have not been changed. As a result, at the next backup sessions, it generates duplicate file backups and needlessly fills in the allocated storage space until a user runs out of it. A big flaw of the process and misrepresentation of the reality. DON'T rely on the Norton backup feature. It is very primitive and misleading.
Unfortunately, no overwriting occurs. It was confirmed by a Norton rep, and I noticed exactly the same files (name, size) in the list of backed up files. That is why I reached out to them.
Hi,
I agree not to rely on it, Norton is not a backup company and provides just some space to back up important files, I do not use it to back up my computer.
As for the duplicate, as far as I know, if you make a backup (nr 1) and then do the same backup it will not make duplicate files, it will overwrite. Or if you have an automatic backup every so often, it will overwrite it.
If you then make a new one (nr 2) then it will duplicate files and you will run out of space very fast..
