Norton backup will not backup to my local drive

Note: Local backup does not creat a backup any longer. It just puts some file called N360 on my external drive 25.11.10580 (build 25.11.10580.960)

Do you have an error message (error code) that appears when the local guard malfunctions?

Have you tried to create a new local backup in order to see if the latter would work?

Anyway, here is the procedure showing the different procedures to be checked to try to solve the problem.

  1. Troubleshooting Guide: Local Backup Not Working

    1. Verify Internet Connection and Storage Devices:

      • Action: Confirm that your computer has an active internet connection.

      • Action: Ensure all local storage devices (e.g., external hard drives) intended for backup are connected and powered on.

      • Tool: Your operating system’s network settings and physical inspection of storage device connections.

    2. Check for Error Messages:

      • Action: Open your Norton device security product and navigate to the Cloud Backup window.

      • Action: Look for any suggested causes for backup failure, such as inadequate storage capacity or speed limitations.

    3. Review Backup Status:

      • Action: In the Cloud Backup window, check the status of your local backup sets.

      • Details: A red cross (x) indicates a failed backup, while a red exclamation mark means storage is full.

    4. Free Up Storage Space (if applicable):

      • Action: If storage is full, consider deleting old backup sets or specific files from existing sets.

      • Steps to Delete a Backup Set:

        1. Open your Norton device security product.

        2. On the left pane, click Security.

        3. In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, click Open.

        4. In the Cloud Backup window, select Local backups.

        5. Select the backup set you want to delete and click Manage or the icon.

        6. In the window that appears, click the Settings tab.

        7. In the Delete Backup section, click Delete.

        8. In the confirmation window, click Delete Backup.

        9. When complete, click Done.

      • Steps to Delete Files from a Backup Set:

        1. Open your Norton device security product.

        2. On the left pane, click Security.

        3. In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, click Open.

        4. In the Cloud Backup window, select Local backups.

        5. Click Manage/Manage Files next to the backup set from which you want to delete files.

        6. In the window that appears, on the Files tab, select the files or folders you want to remove.

        7. Click the icon at the bottom-right corner.

        8. From the menu, click Remove from backup.

        9. In the confirmation window, click Remove and exclude.

        10. Click OK and then click Done.

    5. Create a New Local Backup:

      • Action: If the issue persists, try creating a new local backup.

      • Steps:

        1. Open your Norton device security product.

        2. On the left pane, click Security.

        3. In the Security dashboard, in the Cloud Backup tile, click Open.

        4. If prompted, sign in with your Norton account credentials.

        5. In the Cloud Backup window, click the Local backups tab.

        6. Click Create local backup/Create new backup.

        7. Click Add and add the files and folders you want to include.

        8. Under “Detect special file types,” select any special file types you want to include (e.g., Sensitive files, Notes, Contacts).

        9. Review the list of files and folders, then click Create Backup.

        10. Wait for the backup task to complete.
