Norton Bootable Recovery Tool - Firewall

Hello,

if I am using the Norton Bootable Recovery Tool, I can boot my PC from the respective DVD. When I do so, a yellow screen is appearing and  can chose to scan the PC.

But, there is a option to update the "virus database" using the LAN-Connection (i.e. internet). My question is: if I connect my PC to the internet to download the newest virus definitions/database is there any rist? At thist time the no firewall is blocking access to my PC.

Best regards and thanks in advance

Dear HarryP,

but that was actually my concern about the Windwos Preinstallation Environment. I mean when I boot from DVD and then connect the LAN-Cable to the computer and the PC is connected to the internet but not Windows and no Norton Firewall is active. Can my PC be reached by hackers from the internet at THIS time and should I do the update of the virus definition as fast as possible?

Best regards and thank you very much for the help

Your not going to get hacked through a DVD, it's read only media, nothing can be changed or added.

Even if your running the NRT tool from a flash drive, Windows PE is a minimal set of operating system files and as far as I know, has never been hacked.

It's all the other "junk" (features) in windows that add the vulnerabilities, windows PE has no open ports or services to the internet.

The only connections that can be made to the internet have to originate from PE or a program running on PE (live update).
