Hi, I'm a Norton 360 user and this idea regards the Norton Toolbar (I'm not sure if this may also apply to Norton Internet Securuty).
The design of browsers are much more streamlined than they used to be, enabling a greater area for actually viewing the websites. For me additional toolbars, although ideal for many people, create unnecessary on-screen clutter. However, because I value my Norton protection, I restrain myself from disabling the Norton Toolbar even though it only contains three buttons (the shortcut menu, Site Safety, and Cards & Logins, ... I don't use the 'safe search' option).
I use firefox and I know that the menu bar is highly customizable, allowing buttons to be added / removed from alongside the back and forward buttons, and arranged in whatever order the user chooses. My experience with other browsers is limited, but adding new buttons to their respective menu bars is surely not impossible.
So here is what I suggest:
1) an OPTION to hide the Norton Toolbar (whilst still maintaining background functionality, and not simply 'disabling' it)
2) an OPTION to add Norton buttons to the menu bar. Three buttons would be required, although the user would be able to choose which (if any) should be added onto the menu bar. The button for the shortcut menu (currently accessibly from the toolbar via the 'Norton' button) should have an icon similar to the Norton 360 desktop icon. The Site Safety icon needn't be changed. The Cards & Logins icon also needn't be changed, but the label ought to be dropped.
I personally would put the Site Safety icon immediately after the forward/backward buttons, I'd put the Cards & Logins icon towards the right, and I'd go without the shortcut menu icon. (Of course, I'd still know how to add it if I needed it!)
I hope you'll agree that this optional cosmetic change could have some significant practical benefits.
