I have stumbled across something perculiar and I am wondering if it is anything I should be concerned about.
I use NIS 2012 on 3 different pcs. However recently someone apparently swapped the Internet Explorer desktop shortcut on one machine to the 64 bit version. As a result, when iti s opened, in the manage add-ons panel the following norton 'add-ons' are not displayed at all.
Norton Toolbar
Norton Vulnerability Protection
Norton Identity Protection
Whilst I know what Norton Toolbar is, and I don't use identity safe, I am wondering what Vulnerability Protection does?
All of the options in NIS Settings-Web were enabled, so essentially, was browser protection etc working even though the 64 bitversion of IE was being used?
You also have Vulnerability Protection independent of the browser add-on, Auto-Protect which would alert to any malware that tried to install as a result of an exploit, and numerous other protections. If an exploit had successfully run while the browser IPS was not enabled, you would likely have noticed something amiss at the time, such as odd popups or your system going through some strange behaviors. If your PC is running fine and the Norton Idle Quick Scans have not detected any threats, then there is not much reason for concern.
