My computer is a HP laptop running Windows7 (RTM). This past April I had both of the internal hard drives replaced with larger capacity ones. Each morning I plug it in and turn it on. Several times during the day I shut it down, but I don’t unplug it. At the end of the day I shut it down and unplug it.
With Norton (either Antivirus or Internet Security) each morning when I start up my laptop it runs a Check Disk during boot up. With the Norton product removed, my laptop boots up without running Check Disk. During the day I might shut down my laptop and unplug it. If I do, it boots up without running Check Disk. It only happens the first time each day.
The latest example: On the 2nd of this month I installed NIS2010. I then ran both a express and a complete scan of my laptop. Each morning after that it does a Check Disk when I first bootup.
When you changed versions of your Norton product, did you uninstall your previous version first with add/remove or the equivalent of that for Win 7 and then use the Norton removal tool several times with reboots after each run of the removal tool and then install NIS with a clean install of the product? Do you have any other spyware, firewall or antivirus program on your computer?

Does chkdsk ever actually find anything when you look at the summary?
It would also be a good idea to get a fresh download of the program also since the install you had may have been damaged or not a complete one especially if something interrupted the download. I haven't used win 7 yet, but is there a setting in win 7 where you can set a schedule for things to run? Is it possible that some how check disk got scheduled to run on first boot up? Is the system clock correct on the computer also? Does win 7 have some sort of safety feature that would turn on check disk in order to check something that windows thought was wrong? Is there anything in the bios that would control when check disk would get turned on? These are just some things that might get someone to come up with some possible solutions. Hope this helps.
Earlier I had NAV2010 installed and was getting the check disk. I removed it for a week. No check disk. hen I installed NIS2010 and the check disk problem started again.

Windows will, when it boots, do a quick check of the file system and if it feels it is necessary it will start a chkdsk to "fix the file system". I am confused though as to why having Norton on there is causing Windows to run chkdsk unless you do actually have an issue with your HDD.
Try running chkdsk /f from the command prompt and then, if all is OK run chkdsk /r (one checks and fixes file system errors the other fixes bad clusters) - just to ensure that the HDD is indeed OK..
I have A similar experience, though different because I am not booting into my Windows 7 (RTM) HD,
Turn it on in the Morning, and with NIS2010 installed boot using the XP hard drive and chkdsk always wants to check the Windows 7 HD even though each time chkdsk finds no errors or problems.
Addon:
I have Un-installed NIS2010 and on restart the chkdsk ran once, I let it run again. Then I shut down the PC 3 times after startup and chkdsk doesn't appear again on boot. I will see what happens over the day and night, and see if chkdsk appears again during restarts.

Hi Quads,
Thanks for that, let us know what the outcome is and it will, hopefully help airforce2117
I noticed that after running the removal tool several times and then re-installing NKS2010 it did not ask for my subscription code.
This morning no disk check. I'll post back later in the week with results. As of now all is great!! Everything is working.

Good to hear it is working. It has probably picked up the subscription code automatically so no need to worry about it. If you want to check you can go to Help & Support and click on Subscription Status.
I was wondering how you had got on. Glad to hear that it seems to have settled down and, hopefully, it will stay that way.
