Norton causing computer to run hard after update

It seems, after Norton recently updated and added some additional features to its program, and after my account renewed (not sure if it's related), my computer will run normal at first.  Within a few minutes (when Norton is working in the background), my computer fan will begin running very very fast and heat up.  It's got NOTHING to do with dust.  My computer is clean.  I keep the hard drive and temp files swept.  This is unnervingly annoying when I'm trying to work.  Nothing seemed to work.  I tried rebooting, updating, security features, etc. and nothing helped.  I finally checked the registry and the only files causing an issue were Norton related.  I ran a fix on the registry and the computer immediately went quiet again.  However, every few minutes throughout the day, it starts again, and it's ALWAYS Norton file related.  I'll even put my computer to sleep by closing my lap top and it'll start in that mode too.  My computer goes into sleep mode, or is supposed to, and same thing happens.  Always, when I check the registry for issues, it's Norton.  Most of the time, I can run a fix and it fixes it until Norton activates whatever it's doing again.  Now it seems to not even respond to my registry fix and just continues to cause this issue.

Honestly, I'm getting ready to cancel Norton and go to another antivirus software.  What can I do?
