I have been through two chat sessions and the support staff is corporative but only ends up partially fixing my subscription problem. Every year, I wait for a sale and then get a 3 PC license and hold it until I need it, as I know that a new license will overwrite the old one and I would lose these days on my newer subscription. This year, my son was at college and was not going to be back before the two licenses that we use would expire so I renewed mine early to ensure that I would have any problems resolved before I needed to enter the new license string into his version of NIS 2011.
Once I entered the license string into my PC, I entered into a chat session (case number 505115066) and the lost days were added back in. A few days later, I decided to go into my account and the license data stated 1 PC while I have the original, unused CD that has 3 PCs imprinted on it. Another long chat session and I was told that I would be able to enter the new license string into my son’s laptop (they always think that you are installing the software). Now a month later, my account still says 1 PC with no remaining installs though I have only used 2 of the 3 and never use the 3rd. My concern is that one day, my 3+ year old desktop or my son’s laptop will give out and I will have to start the whole process over, as the second PC was probably a grace installation to cover the problem of a reinstallation on a new PC.
Any thoughts on how I can get the status changed from a 1 PC license to a 3 PC license without having to go through Norton Chat? While their English is good, they seem to have somewhat limited knowledge on how to update the Symantec license server database.
