How can I create a new Norton Cloud Backup group ?

Reset to Default resets cloud backup.

Norton 360 v24+ only supports one active, “working/sync” backup set per computer. You can no longer create multiple separate backup sets from within the software interface as you could in previous versions (v22 and earlier).

  • The “Reset to Default” function is designed to restore the entire Norton 360 application to its original factory settings.
  • This includes resetting all configurations, such as firewall rules, security settings, and user-created backup jobs, including cloud backups.
  • Therefore, the reset action will erase the link between your Norton 360 application and the cloud backup service, effectively resetting the cloud backup component.

Effects of “Reset to Default” on Cloud Backup

  • Local Configuration is Cleared: Resetting to default removes the current backup set settings from your local Norton 360 installation.
  • Existing Cloud Data Remains (Initially): The actual files stored in your Norton Cloud storage are not automatically deleted by this action alone. They will still reside in your online account.
  • New Setup Required: After the reset, you will need to re-configure your backup sets from scratch. The application will prompt you to “Back Up This PC” or create a new backup set.
  • “Restore” Access: Your old cloud backup sets may appear under the “Restore” options in the Norton application, but you will not be able to “Manage” them until you link or create new, active sets.

To Completely Start Over

If your goal is to completely clear all previous backup data and configurations to start fresh, the recommended process involves two steps:

  1. Delete the online backup sets: Sign in to your Norton Account via a web browser and manually delete the old backup sets from the “Cloud Backup” section.
  2. Reset locally: Then, use the “Reset to Default” option within the Norton 360 application on your PC to clear the local settings.

Cloud Backup Limits

  • Total Storage Capacity: The primary limit is the total amount of cloud storage included with your specific Norton 360 subscription plan (e.g., 2 GB, 50 GB, or 100 GB). This storage is shared among all the devices covered by your subscription.
  • Number of Backup Sets Per Computer: Unlike local backups (where you can have up to 10 sets), Norton currently limits you to one active cloud backup set per PC within the Norton 360 interface.
    • This single set can be customized to include or exclude specific files and file types, but all configurations for that machine exist within that one set.
    • You manage what goes into that single set, but cannot create a second, separate cloud backup configuration for the same computer from within the software.
