Norton Community Watch very slow

Well what I observed in the past is that pending changes to “waiting” if the software cannot upload a particular entry. It then moves on and trys another. If that too fails, the pending status changes to waiting. But now it seems this is no longer the case. The software chokes on a non sending entry and does not change “pending” to “waiting.” It was working that way on September 20 but Symantec must have pushed an update that causes the software to stall on a non-sending entry rather than change it from “pending” to “waiting” and try again later. Do you have the same problem with the 2013 version?

Now there is no “waiting” status and the software chokes on a non sending log.

Is it affecting the operation of our system?

If not, just wait a day or so to see if it runs correctly. If it is a server issue, it is the weekend, so it could take a little longer. This may be on a non critical server, so they may get to it Monday morning.

Not really a big affect other than NCW taking a long time to run. Can you confirm the behavior on your PC?

Basically, from September 20, none of the NCW log change to “waiting” and skipped over to be sent later.

It is now working as expected.  Weird.

Glad it is sorted!

Sure sounds like it may have been a server glitch!

And looks like it's glitching again.

Oh come on!  It's been almost a week now and the problem is still not fixed.  I suspect that one of Symantec servers related to Norton Community Watch, which my computer is trying to connect to, is glitching.

I have tried from a store PC and it seems it have the same problem.  Download and run "IE Spell."  That will generate a Community Watch entry.  Then run the Norton Community Watch task from Norton Task.  It would not run.

With the pull of the "Norton 2013 submission control data" the problem seem to have been solved and the Community Watch sends as normal.

I also got the "Extended File Attributes and Signature," but I'm fairly sure that the problem is solved due to the pull of the "Submission Control Data" update.

And it's gone again.  Taking a long time to submit two entries.  It had multiple tries but still listed as "pending."

Problem still going on. Oh come on. This is not a problem with my PC as I just did a factory reset.

We may be having a communication error of our own. We may be misinterpreting what you are saying, and vice versa.

Community Watch is not necessarily a daily uploading feature, and a status of Pending may be normal for non critical submissions.

I'll see if I can get more info from Norton on how often the submissions are normally made.

Hi Dave20,

As peterweb has indicated, Norton Community Watch may take a considerable amount of time to successfully submit items in the queue and it is normal to have entries that remain pending for extended periods.  I posted about this here back in 2009.  NCW is a background task (no user oversight necessary) and has no bearing on the security of your PC - so, it really isn't important how long it takes for the queue to be fully submitted.
