Norton Confidential Browser Helper Object & IE7

Hi there,

I can't say for certain wheather this is a bug in NIS 2008 but from what I've read on the net it is plus has been going on awhile. Basically the problem is my IE7 randomly freezes, but have noticed it does it EVERY time when I go to www.reflexive.com . I eventually narrowed the problem down to Norton Confidential Browser Helper Object. And basically I'm just wondering what Norton is doing about it?

Thanks

Hi Ninko

I can not really help with the tech side of things but here is a thread about IE7 crashing take note on the 1st page message 10 by Phil_D http://community.norton.com/norton/board/message?board.id=nis_feedback&message.id=7638&query.id=9869#M7638 hope it can help.

Hi mo,

Thanks for your reply.

I have already done all that though and found the problem to lie with 'Norton Confidential Browser Helper Object'.

Ninko - Interestingly, I just went through the same independent research, enabling and disabling each of my IE7 add-ons to try to determine the cause of a problem in accessing some sites.  The Reflexive site was a prime example of the problem.

I also determined disabling 'Norton Confidential Browser Helper Object' immediately solved the browser freeze on that site.

Unfortunately I didn't find your post until I was able to identify the culprit and use its title to search for information.

I did find a number of old discussions on more severe problems with the same add-on at the original introduction of Norton 2007 (shutdown of IE7 for no apparent reason).  They were supposedly fixed last year and I am even using Norton 2008.

So, there is definitely something amiss with the Norton poduct.
