Norton crashed on Windows update

Windows sent a note asking to download some upgrades.  I did allow this and then Norton would not open.  Norton asked me to reinstall so I did and Norton upgraded itself.  This caused all of my Identity Safe data to be lost.  I have a Norton backup but the data is not there.  I have data files listed on hard drive but Norton says it can not used them.  I spent an hour with a "chat support" person and he says data can not be recovered.  Is this true???   Thanks for your help

Thanks for the help.  Norton has decided to go ahead and run.  Don't know why

Perhaps a restart of your computer cleared up any issues with Norton and or Windows.
