Norton created this HBEPGUID.TXT

I forgot to add one thing, I have this on two pcs now, and it's bugging me. the way I fixed it in the past was to reinstall the norton program. as in the past if you delete the HBEPGUID file it just comes back later in the same directory. the shared folder. it's created by norton CCSVCHST.exe  as I've learned because I used a program called File Monitor  http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/systeminformation/filemon.mspx  , that lets you watch your system for changes.

want I want to know is why does norton create this file and store it in the shared folder. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents

how would one go about getting someone from symantec to confirm my findings. it seems to be created when Live update runs. so what will happen is I'll delete that file reboot leave my computer running and watch my task manager and live update will run and create a file called HBEPGUID.TXT, but why is it being stored in the shared folder?

I suppose that they made the program create the file in a shared folder so that people wouldn’t notice it.  Chances are it has information and if stored in the norton folder people would simply delete it.

wouldn't  the opposite be true, I would more likely notice it in the shared folder then the Norton folders, Because i don't often read my virus program folders.  I mean I don't have file sharing enabled but I still look in the shared folder from time to time just to make sure nothings in there. Plus hijack this logs anything found in that folder.

This little file is annoying the hell out of me. because if I detele it, it just comes back.

Anyone else have this strange file in there shard folder or is it just me?

You can find it in my computer Folder.

No one at Symantec whats to asnwer my question..

 Hi jarrycanada,

I apologize. I have been looking into this, and it only dawned on me today that I hadn't replied to you about it. I'm sorry for the lack of communication about this; it is on my radar and I should have an answer for you soon. Thanks!

Good I look forward to it. let me know if you need anything.   I had this with NIS 2007 on one pc but I uninstalled it and that file HBEPGUID had gone away. so i installed NIS 2008 on two pcs and everythings been good tell this month and then I noticed that file was back but on two pcs. but it seems to not come back untel I reboot and restart my system then about 20 or so mins into my session it will show up in my shared folder, File sharing and printer sharing are turned off on both pcs.

I figured something new out here, when ever HBERGUID is created it's after the two norton programs start pifCrawl.exe and SSAutoRN.exe is running for a sec in Task manager..
