Norton Daily Updates break my WLAN connection

Hello,

OS: Win Vista 32bit

Norton IS 2011

Everyday i turn on the laptop, after some minutes the internet connection (WLAN) does not work. I found out that when I open Norton, there was a recent update (0 minutes ago). When i manually select Norton to update, connection also doesnt work. So it must be something with the updates. I can only fix this by restarting the computer. Then the connection works properly long time. Not every norton update closes connection, but at least one time every day (after first start). This is quite annoying. :smileysad:

After the connection breaks, the WLAN icon still says 'online' but I cannot open any websites. It says 'No answer / connection' in Firefox and even Norton itself has no connection.

In the windows network center it says it has connection with router but not internet. And Icon in taskbar has yellow symbol. When I click on 'Solve Problem', it says DNS does not work and I should check 'Symantec Intrusion Prevention' guidelines.

I think a update on Intrusion Prevention causes to block the network DNS or something. I did not create any rules or so.

What I tried:

- calling  router menu ->  does not work

- turn off Intrusion Prevention after connection breaks ->  does not work

- reconnect to router ->  does not work

- turn off firewall ->  does not work

- switched form invisinles to visible network ssid -> makes no difference

I hope you can help me with that. :smileyhappy:

Hi big_concept,

It doesn't sound as if Norton is the cause of the issue - if you have lost connectivity Norton LiveUpdate will, of course, fail.  Try running the Windows Network Diagnostic Framework to try to determine what is causing the issue.  Norton integrates with the NDF, so if it is a Norton problem the NDF will let you know and provide solutions to fix the issue.  Here is the information you will need on NDF:

If this is at your house, try changing the network to full trust.

Open the network security map and on the left side with your wlan selected, click edit, on the next page click edit again and change it to full trust.

If your talking about a public wifi then you'll need to try something else like adding an alternate DNS address to the laptop.

This was happening to my Wife and I don't think it's a Norton issue but something with the router.

It sounds like the Symantec Outbound Connect V4 Callout problem. There should be some notation in Norton history if this is the same problem.

Hello,

thank  you very much for your replies. I appreciate it.

I changed network to full trust, but the problem still occurs.

I ran Network Diagnostic and it says that I should check 'Symantec Outbound Connect V4 Callout'.

Already searched the forum but did not find any fix.

It is the same problem as in this thread.

My father is new to computers, he wouldnt do the updates manually. :smileyindifferent:

Is there already a solution?
