Norton DNS blocking akamai

Today a bunch of websites seem to be blocked by Norton DNS.  The sites are being flagged with malware pointing to akamai.  mcmaster.com is one example.  Anyone else having this issue or know if it's a legit threat?

It's blocking parts of wallmart today as well.  Seems we'll need to stop using the service until it's fixed.

The reasons all these sites are block today seems to be because Norton DNS is blocking akamai.net which tons of websites use.

Is anyone at Norton going to fix this?

I can confirm this problem.

I can't access many websites that are using Akamai, like http://www.portugal.gov.pt/ (website of the Portuguese government) , http://www.tomshardware.com/  .

Facebook uses Akamai for hosting images, as such Facebook has also been affected (for instance, images do not load).

Regards.

I would venture millions of sites use akamai, hopefully someone is reading this and will fix.  Had to disable on our network for now.  Great product, just need this fixed ASAP.  Thanks!

Yes, this needs to be fixed ASAP. I use Norton DNS for all of my clients and the calls have started as to why websites can't be accessed.

This is happening to me as well because of the akamai blocking a lot of websites are becoming unnecessarily blocked as I am using Norton DNS. I look forward to this becoming resolved very soon.

Hi,

The Norton ConnectSafe team is  looking into the issue.

Thank you

Katie

Norton DNS actually block NIS Live Update, Norton Power Eraser and I cannot even download virus definitions form http://www.symantec.com/security_response/definitions/download/detail.jsp?gid=n95 (Symantec official site) because Norton DNS say that akamai.net is a malicious website!

For those experiencing the problem can you please do the following...

1) What is your location?

2) What IP set are you using?

3) Please attach a screenshot of the Malware blocking issue

4) Please post a link to the Malware blocked page. There should be a "detailed report" link on this page that I would like to see.

For troubleshooting you may want to try the following...

*Remove the Primary and Secondary IPs

*Try only one IP at a time. Start with the Primary and let us know if you are still experiencing the issue.

*Delete the Primary IP and try just the Secondary IP.

The problem now seems solved, however this is the screen: http://i.imgur.com/9nVKiBP.png

DNS used: 198.153.192.1 198.153.194.1 Location: Italy, Sicily.

UPDATE: NIS LU and Symantec site works. Norton Power Eraser still cannot connect to servers.

Thank you this is very helpful. We may have identified the issue and are working with the teams in charge of these components now.

Thanks for the reply.

Only for info: NIS Live Update is now blocked again.

UPDATE: problem now solved! NIS LU and Norton Power Eraser work.

Thanks.

Some screenshots.

Note that although some websites aren't blocked (like CNN or Facebook for example), it's impossible to navigate, because the website is all messed up.

The location is Portugal.

1) What is your location? VA USA

2) What IP set are you using? DNS Servers 198.153.192.40 and 192.153.194.40/198.153.192.50 and 198.153.194.50/198.153.192.60 and 198.153.194.60

3) Please attach a screenshot of the Malware blocking issue. Messed up websites, i.e. facebook, nfl.com images on many sites, Windows Update not working. There are too many sites to list. Missing images broken images etc.

4) Please post a link to the Malware blocked page. There should be a "detailed report" link on this page that I would like to see.

Too many to list but changing DNS servers to Comodo's fix everything, so it is definitely your DNS servers.

Let me know if you need any further information, this is effecting many clients I have.

Everything is working fine now.

Hi,

Thanks for all the posts.  The issue should have been corrected.   Please let us know if it has been resolved for you.

Thanks,

Katie

Yes, now all the websites that shouldn't be blocked are correctly working with NortonDNS again. Thank you Norton Support Team and the user community feedback for helping resolve this.

Thanks for the update.

Thanks,

Katie
