Norton DNS Security

Please excuse me, I am not sure where to post this. I have been using nis  and norton dns since it came out but recently I have been having a problem with norton dns and a roku player connecting to the internet. it will not allow me to connect to the internet to watch netflex or another channel. it does not matter what level of  norton dns security I choose but when I uninstall norton dns it allows me to connect and to work fine. Is this just a glitch and are you aware of the problem

   thanks

[edit:Clarified subject.]

I am running dns on my router. I have tried the basic norton dns setting. I have never had any problems with norton dns with any other device connecting through the internet so I was kind of surprised that the roku player was having trouble. My wii player connects without difficulty and like i said previously when i uninstalled norton dns the roku player was able to connect easily.

              Thanks

I am running win 7 64

Hi Johnrnla,

When you said "recently I have been having a problem with norton dns", can I assume it was working before, but it stopped working just recently?

You said "not matter what level of  norton dns security I choose" -  What exact IP addresses you have tired for Norton DNS?

Thanks,

Katie

In addition to DNS what other Norton product are you running? When your player is connected can you see it in your network security map? Does it have the appropriate permissions and trust levels?

I'm thinking that if you have all of the devices connected and powered up when you turn the system on it should discover all of them and make the necessary adjustments so they will all work correctly.

Let us know how it goes

I am also running  Norton internet security 2012. I mispoke when I said it stoped working. I hve used norton dns for a while. 198.153.192.40  and also 50. I recently bought a roku player and noticed it would not allow me to connect to the internet . I tried all the norton dns settings and it would not allow me to connect so i disabled norton dns. Immediatly I could connect again. I went back and forth between turning on norton dns and tudrning it off  and no luck. at first i thought it was the 50(pornogrofy) setting so i went to the 40 setting and still no luck.  So I tried open dns out of curiosity and I connected without any problem. Norton dns still works for everything else when i use it .

johnrnla,

Thanks for the update.   We suspect that roku uses some other domain to connect to for playing steams.  If you reenable Norton DNS and let us know  the following (You are welcome to send me a private message or email - under my profile if you prefer)

1. Which Norton DNS IP you are using,

2. What your own public IP address is,

3. The time you try to use roku player and it fails

We will look at the logs to see what domain is blocked and allow that domain if it's safe.

Thanks,

Katie
