Thanks for all your hard work with my N360 issues, but all hail to Jayson at Norton Chat!
He remoted in to my PC and sorted out the N360 re-install (Hugh - I now understand what the dustbin is for!), and he fixed the Download Manager tab issue. Thankfully the tab issue was not mailicious, and it was embarrasingly easy to fix.
Jayson went to Tools - Internet Options - General tab - "Home Page" Underneath my home page web address line was also a long address which was presumably the Norton Download manager address. Jason simply deleted the address! DOH!
Thanks again for all your contributions. I have learned a lot!
I recently set up a brand new HP Prodesk desktop PC (Win 7 PRO - 64 bit was preinstalled)
Ono of the first tasks I carried out in the setup was to download Norton 360 using the last of 3 downloads showing on my account. The install went fine, and it functions as expected.
However, I now notice that a Norton Download Manager tab opens up everytime I open I.E.11. Is there anyway to stop it?
Following suggestions from another post on this subject I have checked MSCONFIG - Start Up tab, and there is no Symantec products listed. However, Norton 360 is listed under the Services tab.
I also note that under the General tab, Selective start-up is selected, not Normal start-up. Not sure why this should be, and if it has any bearing on the Download Manager issue.

What Hugh calls the dustbin is a carry over from his earlier years in England - most of the rest of us from the US call it a trashcan - old habits are hard to break!
BTW, in your case it appears your post citing Norton Chat as fixing your situation is what solved this - so yuo can mark your on post.

Hi Yank,
Excellent point!!
Best regards,
Apostolos, since this thread is solved - I will pull it more off subject by telling you that while I was stationed in England (can't remember which of the three times) there was a comdey series on British TV entitled "The Dustbin Men" - yes it was about the trash men and quite funny!
