Norton Download Manager won't download

Norton crashed, several different error messages. Followed Error 3047,58 - uninstalled then reinstalled - but 2 new desktop icons -'Norton Download Manager' and 'Norton Installation files' both say 'Another download manager is currently running. Pls wait...' when clicked. So I'm stuck.

What do I do now? The system won't let me 'chat' with you and I've been 'unprotected' for several hours...

Have you rebooted following the removal of Norton?  Did you run the removal tool to clean up before reinstalling?  What error do you get when you attempt to contact Chat?

Have you had other security programs on the computer before installation of Norton?  How were they removed?  Are there any other security programs on the machine now, and what are they?

Is it possible that the machine was infected prior to installation?

Thanks to both of you for responding so swiftly. For some reason, after clicking it several times (and restarting the computer a few times) IT WORKED and reloaded Norton. After a few 'run live updates' I think it's working. (And yes, I did run removal tool earlier, as instructed. And for the last 15 years or so, I have purposely not put on any other security programs so as not to 'confuse' Norton. But I was getting several different 'error' messages for the same problem, and tried to follow up on some of them. I may have downloaded something twice...)

BUT NOW IT WORKS.

So onto the 'chat' problem. This is the message I got on several tries:

Microsoft
OLE DB Provider for SQL Server

error
'80040e57'

String or binary data would be truncated.

/sdccommon/inc/db/dbcommon.inc,
line 276

BUT I JUST TRIED CHAT AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT WORKED - of course now that I don't need it.

So both problems sorted out  - thanks again for responding so quickly.
