Norton Email Error 451 4.2.0 Internal processing error

I have recently had difficulty sending emails from my PC and I have had this email message displayed or not displayed and the intended recipients advise me that they have not received my emails.

I use NIS 2012 with Outlook 2007 and my ISP is Telus, a telephone company.

I receive no error messages from Outlook nor the ISP and the error message only comes from NIS.

l just got off the telephone with Telus as to support and they state that this is a Norton issue.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi juliaroberts,

Message notifications returned by your email service provider will be displayed by Norton, so the fact that the notices appear in a Norton alert box do not necessarily mean that Norton is generating the error.  To see if Norton is the issue disable Outgoing Email Scanning (Settings > Network > Message Protection > Email Antivirus Scan Configure [+]).  If you are then able to send, you can leave this setting disabled.  If the problem persists, you should contact Telus again.  Does this happen with all messages or only particular ones, such as those to specific recipients or with attachments?

I've had the same problem with a few of my outgoing emails today. I'm using NIS 2012 and my ISP is also Telus. It can't be a coincidence that two Telus users would start having this problem. It must be a Telus issue. So far, I have been able to resend emails and have them go through.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

Recently, I have forwarded the email again with a cc to myself and the email did go through (similar to the other gentleman that also commented that he had a similar issue).

I am thinking that I probably have had 6 or 7 emails like this; I was on the telephone with someone in northern BC and I resent the same email 3 times to the same account however on the 4th time when she gave me another account (coincidentally a Telus account) then the email went through.

I run a small home based business and it is really important to be able to communicate with your clients or prospective clients.

I will continue to monitor the issue, however, since I have alerted Telus I suspect that they will also monitor my issue in the background ...

Hi,

I understaand how important email is to your survival. May I suggest that you take at least one deep breath before hitting the send button. During that time check to see that all of the elements required by the system and ISP are present. Mistyped addresses are my weak point. Also be careful when sending messages to several clients. Don't run afoul of the ISPs spam filter. One workaround for a long list is to use the BCC option for the list and your own address for the TO box. This usually slips past the filter.

I am also assuming that you are using an email client so that your address book is behind your Norton firewall.

As has been said many times before the most inprotant security device you have is a fully engaged chair/keyboard interface.

Stay well and surf safe

Hey Group

Now raise that to 3 of us having the same problem as of this AM with Telus server.  I use Mozilla and this has been occuring since yesterday AM.   I intend to phone them tomorrow AM on their internet repair and tell them they can view this site if they doubt they are having this occuring with their service.

Grant

Bill_Holmes and bennettkelly, could you please click on the ME TOO button in the first post in this thread.  Norton is tracking recurring problems and you'd be saying you have a similiar problem.

TYIA

I just joined this club about a week ago - random terror by Norton sending emails (Outlook 2010 / Telus provider). It seems to be worse on email lists or a particular address - however whenever I trace it to a particular address, the resend works perfectly.  I had Telus verify that my email accounts are ok. Can't find anything on Norton Help site.  Any ideas appreciated.

Thanks for pointing this out. I've now clicked on the ME TOO button. My problem continues today.

I have done some further testing.  My home Lan is 50% PC and 50% Apple.  This issue does not happen on Apple as there is no Norton product there.  There is no issue on either PC or Apple when I sent through my Gmail account - only Telus. A friend, also on Telus, reports that various attachments for his baseball legaue are being stopped or stripped or the email stopped.

Therefore, while there could be a conflict between Telus and Norton, my bet is that Telus has changed part of their system or have issues and that is hub of the problem.  I just don't understand why sending via Telus on an Apple does not have same issue as on PC - perhaps this is due to the randomness of problem.  Back to Telus to see if there is a problem there.

I've been on the phone and chat for the last 2 hrs with TELUS tech support and Norton Tech support. I've asked both service providers to escalate. Temporary solution from Norton is to turn off outbound email scanning. Hopefully, someone will look into it further. I suggest any other folks with the same problem to contact both service providers as well - the more complaints the sooner it will be fixed.

I too have been dealing with this problem since 9:15 pst without solution. My diagnostics: So far I have established with telus that my email is working correctly. Then telus said it was Norton's problem. I waited about two hours on Norton's line waiting for a human being. She had me deinstall the product then we got cut off. I called Norton again, waited a while on hold and then succeeded in reinstalling on my own. Did a quick scan - no issues. Then thought the problem was solved so I rang off Norton. However I later got the same error message. Now I am back on hold again.

I am relieved to see I am not the only one.  I started having problems Friday evening (27th)I thought it was me...tried clearing everything, running scans, cleaning up mailbox, restarted computer.  Was fine for a while, then it would start up again.  The only way I am able to successfully reply to an email is by starting a new one.  I gave up waiting for telus

testing it with the outbound email scanning off - no error msg - then back on - no error msg in five minutes. I am signing off now. Norton will be calling me tomorrow morning to see how things have been. Have a good evening.

This error message does not seem to be caused by Norton. I ditched Norton a few years ago (switched to MS Security Essentials), but I recently got that message when I tried sending emails. If I persist, and keep resending the email, it eventually goes out. This could be a TELUS problem.

I just got Telus on Thursday and I am getting the same error messge from Norton, never got it before with my other ISP..seems like it must be a Telus thing, is a little frustrating, having to keep trying to send the same email hope they can do something about it.

Here is the original search work that I did when I started this discussion thread.

The essence of the discussion here is that

1. It is an ISP issue in the USA - i.e. no Telus ISP here ... which suggests that this maybe a Norton issue

2. The 451 error was previously described by Norton as Internal Queueing Error in the USA

3. Users were both annoyed and frustrated.

I dont know if this helps!

I started having this problem three days ago.  When I send, I get this error message and in the sent folder it appears that it went.  It hasn't however and if I click on the email in the sent folder and choose to forward it, it will go!  Very frustrating.  CHEERS!!!

OS is windows 7 and using outlook.  and I am on Telus as well.

Has anyone else noticed this seem to be a late April occurence?  The theead above covers April 2010,  April 2011, and now it is occuring in April 2012.

Perhaps someone a lot smarter than I am could figure out what is common between the 3 years during April. Security Certs, something requiring updating on an annual basis - I sure don't know???  :smileyfrustrated:

Your theory on the April timeframe for last three years is very interesting.  I have been frustrated with Telus as they claim it is a Norton problem (and friends using other products have not reported issues plus my Apple products which use no antivirus are working happily).  I have yet to reach any live "no fee" person at Norton.  Yet the complaints this year are coming from Telus users so there must be a tie somewhere.

I am currently running with Norton scanning turned off for outgoing messages and all seems to be well again.  My buddies are all laughing and saying that I should convert to Microsoft as at least their service is free. Personally, I think it is time to go 100% Apple - I have been amazed (vs. PC) how little time I have wasted fixing stuff the past 4 years.

If your theory is correct, May starts tomorrow and this problem should disappear.
