Some users have asked how to solve Norton excessive disk usage.
Task manager is showing me that norton is using an excessive amount of the disk (about 87 mb/s) at all times. This is slowing down most of my application startup times including the windows file explorer application. ... -- maxtish
The disk is constantly pegged at 1.0 to 1.9 mb/s and its Norton.exe every time. No matter what you do it will not stop including silent mode, disable auto protect, disable firewall, running a full screen game or even shutting down Norton via windows task manager (which does nothing to stop it). ... -- Zam58
Here's what worked for me.
- After Norton installed updates, it toggled on options that caused a full scan scam and disk optimization conniption.
- To stop the full scan, I opened Settings > Administrative Settings > Background Tasks. From the list of tasks, click anything that is running.
- To stop the disk optimization, I went through all the settings and disabled everything else.
- I use Norton to scan downloads. Don't download anything risky? Don't need to scan your entire boot drive every day!
- I have an SSD. Please, Norton, don't try to defragment my SSD!
