Norton.exe is not safe and has been removed

I was using your wonderful program and I had a little laugh.

NortonFUn.PNGThe next meme is here. Thanks Norton lol! smiley

Hi Krusty :-)

I read 20750065's first post to say that it did. I assumed that a process had a exe. of the same name. But now I see the name is NSBU.exe. I must have been half blind or hallucinating when I first read it.

One of the things that disturbs me these days is the increasing number of words I have to look-up the correct spelling of. The next thing I know I will not remember who I am, which in my case might be a good thing.

But even if it didn't have such a file, what was the cause of the apparent removal of N 360 after the exe. was shown as having been blocked and deleted.?

The undesirable file ns.exe is typically not classified as malicious, such as a script that would delete an AV program. It is part of a botnet.

@Norton.exe.... please help update this thread with additional info. To do so, emm, you do the following:

1. Hit "View Details" when you see any pop-up from yr NS client.

Hok, what you seem to be missing is that norton.exe was detected and Norton does not have a file called norton.exe.

Tony_Weiss:

You Norton product deleted itself and reported back that it had deleted itself? That seems nearly impossible. And Norton.exe isn't a file on our Norton products. This seems really weird. Is it possible that @PhoneMan's information is actually what happened?

It's far from impossible. Easily spoofed. It may not have been N 360 that reported that the exe had been deleted.

The entirety of possible explantations/scenarios are totally bizarre.

A FP by N 360?

A botched maware removal?

Malware that announces itself?

Weird

Norton.exe is not safe and has been deleted:

I...Again,Thanks for the laugh.

N 360 identifies and deletes what may or may not be a legitimate file and in doing so allows the exe or N 360 to remove N 360 and you think that is something to laugh about? It is funny but not in a good way.

Did this incident occur during startup? Or while your PC was in use?

Did N 360 just fail to start or was the entire NS Folder removed?

Was N 360 still in your uninstall list? Did you check in Task Manager to see if it was actually not running?

All or any of this would be helpful in determing WTF happened.

@Norton.exe.... are you running a Windows 7 based computer?

We don't have a "Norton.exe" file for our product

Please review the following img for future reference:

Windows 10?

Or, you can enter the History section for details?

You have a good point. Im not quite sure. Norton did vanish. I did reinstall it. Hm ill do a Quick Scan.

You Norton product deleted itself and reported back that it had deleted itself? That seems nearly impossible. And Norton.exe isn't a file on our Norton products. This seems really weird. Is it possible that @PhoneMan's information is actually what happened?

It was no trouble at all. I had a long day and this gave me a little kick. I am using windows 7 Home Premium with Norton 360,Im unsure of the exact version number,It is the latest though. And yes Norton did delete its self. I had no problem reinstalling it. Again,Thanks for the laugh.

We don't have a "Norton.exe" file for our product, which leads me to believe it's another program (a malicious one) trying to imitate us and confuse customers. But we like to be thorough and gather info, to get the whole situation.

Bleeping computers says it is a Trojan Worm.

Does Norton actually have a legitimate file called Norton.exe?

Jim cool

That is very strange, but I’m guessing that’s why you posted it. When you click “view details”, what information do you see? Does norton.exe actually get removed? Any other details you can provide (OS, other security programs, Norton product and version) would be appreciated. I’m sorry for the trouble.
