Norton 360 for Windows is downloading but failed to validate and install. A red “Error msg” appears, the only option is to delete downloaded files. There is no error code. I am using the latest version of Parallels to run Windows 11 on a Mac. The Mac is Apple M3 silicon.
Correct appreciate discussing with you SA. The full Norton program currently does not install on a VM running on Apple Silicon M3. The cut down program version on the MS store does work in the VM but it is not configurable. It may not be real time threat protection. The MS store version of Norton Security is therefore a part work around. It is not a full solution. And Norton should stop promoting their full program is compatible with all VM. Cheers.
Doing much research again, I have to go back to the original suggestion that, the issue is, that although Windows is running within a VM the issue of an ARM CPU comes into play. Norton will not install a complete version correctly on an ARM based system. The only solution for ARM processors appears to be the app from the MS store at the present time.

The "Antimalware Service Executable" for the Microsoft Defender Antivirus Service is operating in the background. I saw there's a new version of the Norton app released a week ago however it is only available to select customers and only if you have the existing app installed as a patch. So no good to me. Through the Microsoft Store you get something called Norton Security but it's not the full product. Issue not fixed yet.
Within the W11 VM, are windows defender services running?

Ok the Microsoft Store is a part solution. Thanks.
I can install Norton Security (a cut down version for browser only), and use the Norton 360 subscription.
However it is really disappointing that Norton haven’t resolved the bigger issue of getting Norton 360 to install on Win 11 on a Mac M3 Silicon using Parallels.
Definitely no solution, but a workaround for browser.
Can you access the MS Store via the VM?

Thanks also for your post backs. No, I don’t run Norton in the Mac (and I didn’t before on my old Mac when I used Norton in a Windows 10 VM without any issue).
I still think the issue is the Windows installer, and or because of when the error occurs it’s a coding issue and possibly the Norton downloader.exe is extracting a Norton 360 version from the download file for installation of a Windows 11 version on an Intel chipset hardware. It’s reading incorrectly the platform type and not installing an ARM version. Would be good to know what error number 000003 means….
Thanks again for the post-back. Do you also have Norton installed on the host OS?

My msi.dll file is version 5.0.22621.2506 in the folders windows\system32 windows\sysarm32 and
Windows\syswow64
All the files were last modified 10/11/23 3:04am so I am thinking they are current. I don’t have any restore points and only downloaded windows 11 for installation a couple of days after 10/11/23 (November 10).
Thanks
Apologies T.Dawg. I'm having some rather serious issues of my own related to Norton at the moment, haven't read posts until now. My issue appears to be related to yours in a way, its the installer for the Windows version installing the incorrect version of Norton. Can you validate the installer version for us to review against what I am seeing with my issue? Lets see if they're both related to the installer. My Windows installer version is 5.31.0.3

Hi SA - the 2 threads I was referring to are:
-
Norton 360 on Windows 11 with Parallels 17 and Macbook M1 not installing (and all replies, since closed with no solution)
-
Norton 360 and Parallels for Mac with M1 Chip (and all replies, also since closed with no solution)
I am getting the same issue with my hardware and Windows VM, on the newer (M3 not M1) and Windows 11 Professional within a Parallels 19.2 environment, all software is current spec with all updates installed. And my system has the TPM needed for Windows 11.
The problem seems to be an error in the Norton installer. I can download the Windows version downloader.exe within the VM, and start the install selecting Yes to allow the application to make changes to my system. But the installer then “hits the wall”.
Could a moderator from Norton post the solution if there is one, or advise when a solution will be forthcoming.
Thanks
Hi SA, my MAC is compliant. I am trying to install Norton in a Windows 11 VM that has been set up with Parallels desktop. The VM is on a computer that has the Apple silicon M3 chip. The issue is immediately after the Windows version of Norton is downloaded inside the VM, and when the installation starts. The downloader has completed. It is the install program for Norton that seems to have the problem, there is an Error in the installation and the program just ends without installing Norton
I can't find any solution in Norton community that assists. There are posts from a couple of years back about Apple M1 however those aren't relevant to the issue I have.
Thanks for the post-back. Please let us know your progress with this so we can follow up.

Thanks SA, very helpful I think.
I need to look at the initial parallels install. 60gb ok however some config requirements not done. Probably the issue and resolution is buried in there.
Keen for Norton, Apple and Microsoft to all be a bit more open and transparent about what works, what might work and what doesn’t work. The devil is in the small print!
Hello T.Dawg. Have you reviewed these articles prior? Is you version of MAC compliant?
